My piggies have been inside for quite a while now in a plastic contraption with wire lid, very happily indeed. My only problem is that they have always had a water bottle til now and they have taken to using the water bowl as a bidet to do their business/wash their bottoms in!!
Now i'm all for keeping clean but other than change their bowl every 20 mins I'm not sure what else i can do.there is no way of attaching the bottle (trust me i've tried lol).
I've never come across this with any piggies i've had before so i'm a bit at a loss. I've heard that drinking your own urine is popular with some types of health fanatics, but what about the lack of water???Bit worried!!0 -
I dont understand how there is no way of attaching a bottle sorry?
You can get ones that have suction cups on so u can stick them to the inside of the plastic cage, if that makes sense?I have one, i think its called a Sippy
Another idea...i fashioned a metal cage for my gerbils waterbottle out of some garden wire so that it sits on top of their tank and just the end of the bottle pokes through the wire? maybe you could make something like that? What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
My piggies 'relieve themselves' in their water bowl too. I've never solved it.0

Why not post a photo of the arrangement you have at present and challenge MSE to find a way to attach the water bottle? Bet someone will come up with a clever solution you haven't already tried.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I am the proud owner of 4 new Guinea pigs born on Friday The problem is their mum . Iwent to check them on Saturday and she seemed to have a little scab on her head. I applied some Aloe vera gel. On Sunday she looked worse with hair loss from this scab to about half way down her back. I have applied more Aloe gel and it doesn't seem to be any worse today (MONDAY) apart from it looks like she has rubbed it.
Any ideas what it can be????
It only appeared after she gave birth, I have been giving her vitamins , but haven't been using any flea/mite solution on he beause she was pregnant. I am worried incase she has some mite/fungal infection!! Will she pass it on to her babies can I use fungal/mite solution on her as she is feeding her babies, Can I treat the babies as well???
Sorry this is a long post!!
Any help?????????0 -
Sorry, I know nothing about GPs but I'd advise you to ring your vet and ask their advice.
Congratulations on the new arrivals :T0 -
It sounds like it could be mange to me. Does the area look irritated? I think this can happen when the animal's immune system is on the blink or they're generally a bit run down - that could fit in with her giving birth, it does take its toll on their bodies. I wouldn't know how to treat it though, especially if you can't separate her from her babies this soon. Definitely contact your vet!0

Congratulations!!!!!
Vet check would be best, especially since the babies will be relying on her.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Im not a vet and can't diagnose over the internet but whenever I have had a guinea pig losing hair in that way it has always been mites. If it is, then it won't get better on its own and the mites will just get worse. You need to take the mum and babies to the vet so he can see if it is mites and if the babies have them too. The last time this happened to me my guineapig was given a couple of drops of something on her tongue and this cleared it up! Sprays won't work because they are under the skin.0

Hello.
One of my three pigs is having a poop problem at the moment in that they are rather soft, squishy and smelly - not diarea as such. I dont which it is yet either as they are clean in that area but think it is my boar martin.
Had a look on google and guinea lynx and it seems this could be due to too many watery veggies.
Has anyone had any experience of this? I think I will take them the vet for a check anyway although all three are happy, not bloated or sad.
They have dried food, vitamin c drops on their veggies. Veggies are a mix of bell peppers, cucumber, carrot, brocoli, baby sweetcorn, cabbage, sometimes kale and tomato with a bit of fruit like apple of strawberry maybe twice a week.
How can i get back to normal good old guinea pig nuggets!0
