Some stores get the manufacturer to make them a special model, usually with a different letter after the name; presumably it helps get around the price match question...

Sometimes they do, yes, but in the case of those TVs, they're very different models.

John Lewis has just price-matched an Apple MacBook Air with Curry's for me!

    Brilliant and three years guarantee.

I tried to use Price Match when buying a new dishwasher, and emailed them with relevant details of a competitor selling the same model cheaper. They responded by saying the competitor was online only (they weren't, and had a High Street presence - they were miles away from me, fair enough, and the fact they couldn't get it to me without an expensive courier charge made me think of trying the JL price match and then paying for delivery at JL's lower cost). When I pointed out to them the competitor was an established High Street business, I then got two emails from JL's - one to their credit acknowledging I was right, and another one saying I was wrong. By this time I'd found the same model on the Co-op website for £1 less than the lowest price I'd found up to that point, so I bought from there instead. It was such a hassle that I really won't be bothering with it again.

I was told whilst at JL looking to buy a small kitchen appliance, that they only price match with suppliers that have a physical store. Seems strange when JL sell online along with many other companies. The JL online price and store price were the same including warranty details.

Bought appliance elsewhere online and saved over £90. Same manufacturers warranty.

JL have an online presence as well as a high street one, so they have all the overheads that go with being a high street retailer. I don't see what is odd about that?

JL's price match is worth it on certain items for the extra guarantee/warranty.

But otherwise why buy from them?

Some of their price matching is a faff. Go into store, show them the lower competitor price, sometimes they'll have to send it off to their price matching department for approval. They then contact you and ask you to come back to the store to be able to purchase at the competitors price. Oh Bog off!

I like PC worlds price match thing , very very few of the computer related items are available from the other suppliers on the list
Or they get the supplies to give them unique part/model numbers and therefore cannot be compared on the market to others

I'm broad-minded, but out of interest do you really wear knickers?

Has anyone had any success with price matching JL TVs from anywhere other than Currys/PC World, Argos etc? Curry's usually use their own model nos. so I imagine JL won't price match with them.

There're very few TV retail shops nowadays. They don't match online only stores and I can't find any that have high street outlets, other than Richer Sounds.

Wowzers drag a thread that's months old.

IS there a restriction for the price matching ? eg a store has to be within so many miles.
