Agree with you that another coaliton would have ben the best outcome.

Definitiely agree with you that the often replayed quote of him refusing to agree Labour had overspent almost certainly resonated negatively with a lot of voters.

What is it about being a politican that means you can never admit to making mistakes? It seems to be about the only thing all politicians have in common. Is there some research/experience that shows the electorate will never vote for someone who admits they have made mistakes and learned from them?

Had he said what the questioner wanted him to say, some may well have said "how refreshingly honest" but I bet most would say "so he admits it, you cannot trust them". Even if they did not the right wing press would have. Damned if you do ......

The fact is that whatever mistakes were made the GFC was not Labour's fault and their economic plans were largely supported by the Tories up to 2008.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

Well they've done it. It was only yesterday the talk was of the new paradigm of permanent coalition.

Obviously I don't think it is true, but what a conspiracy theory it would be if the two dinosaur parties colluded to attain a majority vote to try and keep the FPTP belief and try to long term quosh the smaller parties.

You have a point and certainly politics seem to be driven by negative campaigning.

I would forever vote for an MP who was transparent, honest and explained why tough decisions were taken, even if they were not preferred.

The electorate is smarter than they treat us.

This sums up Labour and their supporters' failure to understand the point.

The point isn't that the GFC was the fault of Labour. The point was they carried on borrowing during a credit fuelled boom instead of paying down debt to prepare for a downturn. Because they didn't believe a downturn would happen. They really believed they has "abolished boom and bust", it was all over govt publications pre 2008.

It's like a builder leaving a hole in the roof, and when the house owner complains of a leak saying "it's not my fault it rained" :rotfl:

When they understand this point, they might win an election.

There seem to be 4 seats left to declare

Hexham, and Kenilworth, look like safe Con holds
    St Ives is Lib Dem
    Warwick & Leamington is a Con-Lab marginal

So at least 2 extra for Con, maybe 4.

    UPDATE

Both Hexham and Kenilworth are indeed holds.

    UPDATE 2

Warwick & Leamington, Con hold with increased majority

    UPDATE 3

Con gain St Ives. Completing the Con whitewash of Lib Dem seats in the South-West

    331 it is. A majority of 17?

Although UKIP is 3rd largest party in terms of total votes, it is sitting at bottom of league table. FPTP is not fair.

We voted for the FPTP system in a country wide referendum. It was a stupid decision, for stupid reasons, but it cannot credibly be called unfair that we use the electoral system we voted for 2:1 4 years ago.

With so much error in the polls on the run up, does it effectively make them defunct?

Not really, they keep some people off the dole queues who would otherwise be unemployable ;)
