  • Don't know about that!

The BBC apparently want me living up in the East Midlands for god's sake! Seems I would get "77% Life Satisfaction".

Yet another BBC 'helpful' survey so simplistic, it was probably compiled by 17 year old interns whilst partaking of their 'legal highs'.

I'm an intolerant, miserable, and inflexible individual who is 100% happy being like that. I am also happy raking in the massive house equity down in these parts. So why I should want to move back to an area where houses are as cheap as chips and always will be, and lose 23% happiness is beyond me.

Lord Reith must be spinning in his grave.

So you get all you're self esteem and happiness from "house price equity", how very very sad.

For the record I am now living in South Cambs between Saffron Walden and Cambridge ("very expensive") but going on an outdoor activity break in Northumberland ("very cheap") in a few weeks. Yet I could see myself living in Northumberland for the outdoor life alone, and cheaper houses make it more appealing.

What an empty shallow life you must lead, at least you have your handful of internet friends to talk on here every single day of your and life.
  • So you get all you're self esteem and happiness from "house price equity", how very very sad.

As usual, you've got the wrong end of the stick.

I got all my self esteem by crawling out from a very poor upbringing, getting myself an education, and working extremely hard and intelligently to earn a good crust. Also by investing very well (at the 'cost' of a very modest and near-breadline lifestyle for a number of years) in a deliberate strategy to retire early.

Thus I can now enjoy 'happiness' at watching my investments grow, and at the same time having a more comfortable and opulent lifestyle that I could never afford for the first 50 years of life.

The thrust of my post was about the idiots at BBC who are stupid enough to believe that moving house would in any way improve my happiness.

Had it not been demolished, I would have pointed you to a house in Sawston High Street, rented and lived in for many, many years by a relative of mine. No electricity. No gas. Outside toilet. Two up, one down. But don't worry. A paraffin lamp and a 12v radio allowed her to read or be entertained, despite having to walk a long way to the garage to change the accumulator and get a gallon of paraffin. No 'heating allowance' for her.

There remain many 'affordable' houses in that area.

You are entitled to linger under that impression. It is likely to be just as wrong and biased as all your other 'ideas'.

    Hung up my suit!
Manifestos should include a list of where the election funding and party funding has come from.

This goes a small way to making our democracy transparent.

We are not just voting for a political party we are voting to support a select list of business individuals and organisations.

We should be told who these are before a general election, and arguably updated in real time. Why should this information be difficult to get hold of?

All you need to know really is that business supports the Tories and the Unions support Labour. ;)

So in short a long winded rant to confirm YES you do equate money with happiness, explains a lot by the way.

p.s "Sawston", you are within 5 miles of where I live :-)
  • In 2015 the difference between the life changes Tories and Labour will give me as seen from an indigenous British working man/female is miniscule.
  • I think that the election will see the Tories back in as largest party with the help of others (UKIP or DUP) giving them slim majority. However I think the clearest result that it will be one of the lowest election voting turn outs ever as I think most people are totally disillusioned with politics in the UK.

It isn't. You can get that sort of information from the Electoral Commission. Donations to political parties is pretty much regulated these days. Get things wrong, and plod gets interested.

Edit: This is how difficult it is to find stuff out.

I actually think it is a few reasons, one is a general feeling that the vote doesn't make a difference.

That's called apathy. In most wards there is an independent candidate who is canvassing on the basis of a local issue. Casting a vote at least expresses a view.

heck, we've been discussing some on here for years (gas/electric price freeze for example).

That's not policy though. That's on the hoof spin. No sooner that it was announced, then energy prices globally have been falling. Do we hear the policy now?

What's next weeks reactionary policy going to be? What the UK requires is long term plans from the Government of the day.

The big winner in this election will be Alex Salmond. The biggest losers will (as always) be the electorate.
