Wow mr insensitive! haha. By your logic you should be avoiding MSE because of what I saidIt is only an opinion, people differ from you and sometimes it is much better to consider WHY someone said something to you. Not everything is said to wind you up lol.
If I don't want a storecard, then I don't want one, and I don't appreciate being called stupid
You said that the cashier said that you were "silly" for not getting one. That is, in my opinion, a mile away from being called stupid!by some mindless drone on a checkout,
I'm not even going to comment on that one! Your words speak louder than anything I could respond with!because I choose to not comply with Tesco's wishes, and buy into the store's storecard system,
But you will comply in the wishes of stores for things such as:
- Taking advantage of buy x get 1 free offers, potentially buying more than you wanted (for varying reasons, including to clear stock!)
- Walk the length of a supermarket to pick up a loaf of bread, with the store full in the knowledge that you may just chuck in a few items you otherwise wouldn't have purchased along the way.
- To take business away from competing small local shops, which sell products at higher prices and which cannot compete with the cheap supermarket prices
- Skulking around the "bargain bin" to help them get a quick sale for something which they'd have to chuck out in 24 hours.
- If you use ASDA then they have a price match thing which my nan uses religiously.
And many more. I'm sure that you don't comply with all of the above things though, in which case I think you have cracked the code and seem to be above the supermarkets, the employees and their crazy schemes!so that they can give me 1p off a tin of something I never buy, along with pointless vouchers for other stuff I never buy! I much prefer Lidl and Asda; no silly pointless vouchers; just MUCH cheaper prices.
1. Lack of product knowledge, in that your rewards tend to be redeemed in 5/10 pound plus increments.
2. I like ASDA because of the loyalty scheme mentioned above, they will refund if you find it cheaper elsewhere. But assuming you don't comply with that, the products can vary in prices. Also, if you factor in petrol costs to travel the extra distance (and any other associated costs) then in theory it could end up more expensive.Whatever my reasons for not having storecards, that is my business, and I don't appreciate some silly bint at a checkout calling me stupid for not having one.
1. Yes, it is your business. It is your opinion, and you do not have to share it. This likely makes you quite a closed and unapproachable person, but that is you and that is fine. The cashier is someone unlike you, and voiced her opinion. It is hardly something to get your knickers in a twist about.
2. Wash your mouth out with soap (or your hands? haha).
3. She called you SILLY, not stupid.
4. I love how you called her a silly bint for calling you stupid, but you initially implied that she was stupid for calling you silly! There is always some annoying individual, who thinks they have a right to tell you what is best!' You know what is best? People staying out of my face and minding their own business! If I don't want a storecard, what has it got to do with the checkout operator? Or YOU, or anyone else, for that matter,?
Well, in terms of me (or anyone else on this forum).... you posted on a public forum and as such you are fair game for criticism, not just by me but by anyone else who wishes to post. It is quite ironic how you make a big deal about it being "your business" and yet you've shared it on a public forum. And yes I did stop going to the store for this reason, but that wasn't my main store for shopping, so it was no loss. I did write a letter to the manager about the rudeness of his staff though, and did name the staff member concerned. I suggested he retrained her in customer care, as hard-working people who come to their store do not appreciate being called 'stupid' because they don't sing to Tesco's tune!
SILLY. Hard-working people who WORK in the store do not appreciate being called some of things you said in your post. Irrespective of how mad you are, and how right you believe you are, it is important to remember that people have different opinions. Understanding WHY she would say such a thing and then either letting it go or explaining your position is probably much more beneficial for you (and even the cashier, as they might consider another viewpoint and thus not say it again). Instead you put a big chip on your shoulder, wrote a letter and then acted petulantly by refusing to shop there ever again! Not cool lool
NB: In the post above I use the word "skulking", but this is not meant in a literal sense (or in any way to imply something personal about you - I just like the word)0 -

Oh dear, you have embarrassed yourself ...
If you had actually bothered to read my post correctly that you keep referring back to, you will see that I said THE CHECKOUT OPERATOR SAID I WAS A BIT STUPID! I never mentioned her saying I was 'SILLY.'
I refer you back to my post (no. 19) read it and weep and cringe with embarrassment.fierystormcloud wrote: »I hate being constantly asked if I have a loyalty card. I don't go to Tesco these days, but when I did, I got constantly asked if I had a card, and I kept saying no. I actually stopped going to the local Tesco (3 miles from where I live,) when a rude woman serving me said I was 'a bit stupid' for not having their loyalty card. That was the last time I ever went (2 years ago,) and I have no intention of ever going again. I have been to the one 9-10 miles away several times, but it is rare, and I have probably not spent more than £35 in Tescos in 2 years.
Iceland always ask too, and Morrisons always ask 'do you have our match and more card?' The only one I have is the Nectar card, and I have had that about 5 years. That covers a few places and I do get benefits from it.
See. You are WRONG I'm afraid.
I literally cannot be bothered to read through your ridiculously long rant; I only got as far as the first couple of paragraphs before I got bored. All I will say is ...
GO BACK AND READ MY POST.
I REPEAT: THE CASHIER SAID I WAS A BIT STUPID.
SHE DID NOT SAY I WAS 'SILLY.'
So your MASSIVELY long post makes no sense now. Shame.
All I will say is that I HAVE NO DESIRE TO HAVE A STORECARD, and it has nothing to do with you, so get over yourself and mind your own business. I don't have to explain myself to you. I am done with you on this thread now, and shall NOT be responding to you again on this thread. Now run along and go bug someone else..
Oh and a final tip: GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT in future, before you rant on at people and make a fool of yourself!cooeeeeeeeee :j :wave:0 -

You are right! I don't often admit it, but I was wrong on this occasion. I apologise for that, as I'm generally accurate in responding! I can see that no changes have been made to your post, so I'm not sure where I got silly from.
Please disregard the comments relating to the Stupid vs Silly bit, as these are clearly moot.
That being said, I still stand by some of my comments! They are still relevant (to varying degrees). Also, your language was a bit revealing of your personality. If the cashier has said that you were "Stupid" (using that word) then I sympathise with you quite a bit more. I am quite disappointed that you have jumped on the opportunity to discredit my posts simply due to a mistake, but hey ho you got the opportunity and surely this now makes you immune to any points which may otherwise be valid
Always remember, whatever you post on a public forum makes you fair game for others. Your business becomes theirsThat is as true to you as it is to me. Maybe the fact that I made a faux pas also makes me a, in your own words, "silly bint". Hahaha

If you factor in how lapse Tesco's are with customer data, they featured on BBC Watchdog at least once where people were able to ring up and be given the personal details of Tesco Clubcard members.
That's without the more recent hacking of the Clubcard points.
Clubcard is not for me because of the above plus I tend to avoid Tesco where possible as I don't agree with a lot of their business practices
That's surprising, it was always policy "I'm sorry, I don't give out information, only confirm information you give me" That is - if they can't confirm 'their name & address' is the same as on the card details - can't go any farther!
I remember one caller who had the right surname & D.o.B. but wrong address (she wanted to change it) - good job I questioned her a bit more - she gave me her twin sister's card not hers!
And for 'Fierystormcloud' - the main aspect of Clubcard vouchers is that they do not stipulate any product (those are promotional coupons - which you can choose not to have) - but just reduce what you pay at the till.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
I wonder if when you have politely said no thanks to their offer, and they repeat it, you were to put your goods on the counter and walk away without buying, they would take notice. Maybe a letter to Head Office to follow it up.
Dear Sir,
I popped into your store today to purchase some goods, but was accosted at the till by one of your sales assistants who asked me if I wished to purchase an extra item, on telling them no thanks I am not interested, they repeated the offer, which I took exception to, so placed the goods I was going to buy on the counter and took my business elsewhere.
Yours sincerely a very annoyed customer.
And the sad part is that if you indeed do send that letter there's a chance it'll end up with that member of staff being disciplined for doing their job!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

I doubt very much if an anonymous letter (i.e yours sincerely a very annoyed customer) would highlight which member of staff served me in this hypothetical situation. It might though, let head office know that some people do not want to be bothered with extra offers for goods they had no intention of buying, it is of no concern to me how the staff do their job, as long as they are polite and helpful when needed. They do not have to use the hard sell technique when all I wanted was a magazine, can of deodorant etc. depending on which store I used. I would be quite happy to vote with my feet and take my business elsewhere if I thought I would encounter this each time I used that shop.Been here for a long time and don't often post

Why are we all writing letters all of a sudden?
This is exactly the sort of thing that a Facebook/twitter campaign would be great for.0 -
Many moons ago I used to work for GAME. Once a year they held a sale for people which had a GAME card.
The amount of people that would come to the till with a game priced as:
£9.99 Usual Price
£4.99 Game Card Holders
If someone didnt have a GAME card, we would advise them that if they signed up for free they would get the game half price. The amount of people that would say "Nah, thats ok".
The mind does boggle sometimes.0 -
Yes absolutely! I stopped using WH Smith's because of it. I always have an urge to say "If i wanted it, I'd ask for it so shut up" but I haven't done so because i know it is probably forced on them by their managers.
It's forced on them by the big bosses unfortunately. They are supposed to hit a certain percentage of sales of these till items, and get in trouble if they don't. As you said, the best thing for both parties is to vote with your feet. If you don't buy anything there, they don't have to worry about another till sale.0 -

However, they'll never know. If you say something, or even write a letter or post on their Facebook or whatever, they're getting feedback that their policies are turning people away.
If you just never shop there again, they won't know that they've lost a sale.0
