We've all been one.
At your son's age, I'd been living away from my parents for a bit over four years, in three different parts of the country, and was more than capable of organising my own breakdown cover.
I will join in and take it more off topic, i left home at 16 bought my first car when i was 19 with no help from parents0 -

You could just stay with one of the big boys (AA, RAC, or GREEN FLAG) but you will get a better deal with the smaller companies.0
