Yep I aknowledged and thanked post 4, I want to get it sorted today and am now looking at startrescue..its £28 for the level of cover i need.

have considered autoaid but just dont fancy paying upfront for the breakdown callout
There is no point you considering autoaid as they cost £41 (and give premium cover which you say you don't need).

But don't be put off over paying and claiming as long as you carry a credit card.

They reimburse you long before the card bill will be due to be paid.

the £28 cover with startrescue is fairly premium cover.

Homestart, national rescue to wherever I chose but the cover is just for one car, any driver.

I understand the autoaid attraction is multiple drivers covered for any car, I dont need that, as although we have 2 cars one is a company car so i dont need rescue cover on that

And you'll never be a passenger in a car which'll have a problem, only for the driver to turn out not to be covered by any breakdown policy?

I have basic cover through my bank account that covers me in any car so thats not an issue, its also unlikely i will ever be a passenger in a car and need it

the cover i need is for when my wife is in her car on her own particularly when she makes a 300 mile round trip to her mums

All insurance backed breakdown recovery schemes should be considered as a type of 'Ponzi' scheme.

Which, after all, it's all they are !

It just boils down to which particular crook you wish to admin your particular scheme.

    We've all been one.

At your son's age, I'd been living away from my parents for a bit over four years, in three different parts of the country, and was more than capable of organising my own breakdown cover.
