Ok will try. So i don't need to see shiny metal everywhere? Yes it looks like a hole but it is in a difficult position so hard to know. Is that a big problem?0

So far I'm starting to see some nice shiny steel at bottom edge. :-)0

No, I'd go for seeing shiny metal around the edge, as that shows how far the rusty patch has gone. You then can treat right up to and over the edge of the rusty bit with your Kurust (or similar).
I personally would want to know if that's a hole, so I'd poke a screwdriver in to find out how bad it is. That's just me personally, though, up to you if you do.
(If I poked it and it started growing much beyond a pinhole, I'd take action to cut out the rust and weld in a repair patch, myself, as once it's started it ain't gonna stop any time soon. Looking at it, a repair panel wouldn't be hard to make and fit).0 -

The upper edges are much harder to get to - I will try a screwdriver. I've been using a tool that is for decorating I think!0

Thanks - if it needed a repair panel/welding I think I'd have to take it to a bodyshop.0 -
You really do need bright shiny metal all around - and, yes, that's definitely a pinhole.
I was wrong, I'll happily admit - it's outside-in, not inside-out. That's good. But that pinhole is just the thinnest bit of a lot of much thinner metal than it should be/used to be. That really does all need cutting out and new metal welding in.
The best hand tool to clean it all up is a steel wire brush.0 -
Thanks - the mechanics already said it was from the outside and I could tell it was pretty firm. The car wouldn't be in good shape overall if the rust was inside-out.
I'm going to check the hole and scrape some more off around the edges. I suppose I might not be able to finish the job myself, if it is a hole.0 -

PS Yes I am using a wire brush but it is painstakingly slow and doesn't seem to help me with the edges. Will just keep going!0 -
