A guy was in the car park fitting a windscreen on a car - he had a look and said I was doing a good job. :j

Also said he's never seen a woman doing that and perhaps I should get a job in a bodyshop. :D

He thinks it was only advisory on the MOT because of the location. Said thinks a bodyshop would have done the same as me and charged me quite a lot!

Let's face it, apparently some people are doing DIY dentistry these days. Not that I'd go that far!

Some improvement. That's my limit I think. I just want to stabilise it as much as I can.

Sorry for multiple messages - going through the stages!

I have spent most of today on it, on and off with the waiting time in between layers of Hammerite rust remover. I don't think I am going to get it any better without an angle grinder. What do you think? OK to prime it now?

My friend said it is often a judgment call on whether or not to leave some rust or try to remove it. He thinks (from pics) that adding Hammerite now will halt the corrosion for a while.

That's looking pretty good in the last photo. Sorry for not answering in daylight but we're away for a funeral and internet isn't high on priority list at the moment!

If it looks like the photo in real life then I'd be pretty happy getting paint on it now and, when you're done, if you wouldn't mind popping up to Anglesey to sort the bubble on our rear wheel arch..... :-)

Sorry to hear that, and thanks for replying.

No problem about the delay - I think you trained me up sufficiently so I decided to go ahead. I have just put the second coat of primer on it and later today will sort out the finish. I am a bit nervous about it but I guess if/when the rust comes back I will see it so - maybe will post on here again then.

Ha ha not sure I'm ready to work on other people's cars yet!:)

It's good weather for it here anyway - hope you have some sun in Anglesey too.

Just spotted another patch of rust - the paint has come right off - on the same side sill but towards the front of the car, and also at the back corner of the sill. The back bit is bubbly and it is right on the corner so will be hard to work on. :(

I am wondering whether the whole sill on that side must be rusting underneath..or just separate patches.

The sill on the nearside is fine so far, but there is a tiny bit of rust and bubbling showing near the petrol cap.

It is a bit demoralising as the bit I treated still looks fine. I did just take it to a jet wash (maybe I shouldn't be doing this?).

Any advice appreciated - also on whether to get shot of it for maybe £500 soon. I don't want it to be failing MOTS and I need to stop spending on it if I am going to end up with no wheels - and start saving for something else. I wonder whether to buy something around 3-4 years old if I can get a loan. I've only had this for 3 years and I am not too keen to run it into the ground. Having said that, it hasn't cost me much in repairs so far.

Oh and my other question would be (planning at least 1.5 years ahead) what would I drive next? ;)

Has to be a little sporty and fun to drive..thinking of an upgrade as my finances should be better by then.. if I keep working on it.

Had a Fiesta before this one.
