Thats so true. Any time i've had a listing pulled for it, the guy with the original pic has never had the guts to email me and point it out.
1) why the heck should they email you asking for their image to be removed?
did you have the decency to email them to politely ask before you jacked their image?
2) You've had more than one listing pulled because of image theft and you still preach about it being OK? GOD HELP YOU!0 -

Thank you, I have plenty of common sense, all I was trying to show is that is not as black and white as people make out. People in this discussion were stating that using other peoples photos was deceitful because you would not be sure of what you were buying, I posed an alternative (yes over the top and silly) to show that you do not necessarily need photos of the actual item you are sending and that if people sell a lot of the same thing the wouldn't necessarily have to photograph each one.
I am not suggesting people should use other peoples photographs, only that it isn't the greatest evil on earth and worth getting all worked up about.0 -
it isn't the greatest evil on earth and worth getting all worked up about.
not the greatest evil on earth, don't think anybody is suggesting that, but it is damn annoying, many of the people who are against this practise are sellers who have taken the time and effort to take their own pics only to see someone totally disregard their efforts.
in most cases a polite request in an email to whom you want to take the picture from is all it takes, and then nobody would get worked up about anything.0 -
LOL.......I'm a Stonemason :rotfl:
ok, I guess your statement answers a part of my question, the part that suits you!
Now I am sure being a person of highly skilled profession, and I assume one that has taken years to become remotely self-sufficient, would you be happy if someone profited from your hard work in a similar manner to that in the example presented in this thread?
i.e. if they produced an advert with a picture of some of your work, and they stated they could offer work identical to that shown?

Why don't Ebay lock the pages so you can't 'borrow' someone else's words or pictures? I've seen it done on loads of other sites. If I had 8 hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend 6 hours sharpening my axe0

Thanks to all for your input.
Just for the record, I did politely contact the buyer and point out that it is against Ebay policy etc.etc. but no reply and nothing happened. I then contacted Ebay and they responded to confirm that it was against policy and although they cannot divulge what action they have taken they assured me that action would indeed be taken. And that is has! The offending listing has been pulled.
I will in future customise all my photos to stop this happening again.Bargain Hunter Extraordinaire!!0 -

If I take a photo and post it on Ebay it remains my property, if you copy it and use it you are stealing - that's a FACT.
If you consider theft okay - good luck to you!
It's a slippery slope - how 'big' does theft have to be before it bothers you?
If its theft ring the police and see how seriously they take you
You're right its a slippery slope, one day complaining of people using your pic, next thing you know you'll have turned into Victor Meldrew :rotfl:0
