There's nothing eBay will do about it. I've heard this has been going on for years. eBay will just tell you there's nothing in their T&C's about using other peoples pic's.

The only thing they will advise you to do is Copywrite them :D

Sorry, but you are not right.

    Here is Ebay's advice http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/vero-image-text-theft.html

And, yes they do remove the other persons listings - they have done it for me in the past when somebody stole one of my photos to use in their auction.

Can't say I see the problem with it. Unless you are selling photographs.

It's wrong! I spend a good bit of time setting up and taking damn good photo's. I can make an extra 10, 20 and even 40% on top of what someone selling a similar item with a fuzzy picture makes why should I do all this hard work for other lazy ***s to profit from? Like others have said above it is wrong because people are bidding on what they see. They are not nesceserily getting something of the same quality!

@OP I use PSP to watermark my user name with the piccy there are lots of tutorials on the net that show you how!

BTW I am certain it is against Ebay policy as there was a poster here who I am sure had a listing removed. It is also a copyright infringment!

Pictures are automatically copyrighted by law from the moment you press the trigger.

No you are not right it is against ebays t&cs to use others photos and if reported you have your auctions removed.

i have used other peoples photos when, i never had a digital camera, i did have a few comments from the peoples i used, saying "did you like the pic lol" and like wise people have used mine, it dont bother me as it's time saving, if you cant beat them join them, have a look at others listings before you spend hrs taking and downloading pics...

As well as misleading buyers because the photos you are using are not of the item you are selling, you run the risk of having your listings removed if reported and also you can bet the other seller will be keeping an eye on your listings for a good while. Best bet is not to be so lazy and take your own photos or use stock photos.

Oh and of course nobody would look at the other descriptions other people are using for the same item and if they see a phrase they like would use it.

I think you are being a little naive here..

A phrase is just a phrase so yes everyone selling a book for instance might say 'boards good and clean, pages unmarked and spine fine' or whatever..they might even use the same quotes to describe the story..as that is usually written on the back cover anyway. The difference between that and using someone elses photo is so completely different...when I buy something the fact that the seller has a photograph partly reassures me that they do hold the item they are listing, if they are using someone elses photo they are basically telling me they don't actually have the item to sell.

Also, why should my item photo be used to sell someone elses goods..it just makes me look dodgy as though there is something odd going on. If I was selling an item of clothing do I really want that item, possibly taken on my clothes dummy in my dining room used to illustrate someone elses goods? I don't think so!

i also host my photos off ebay.if someone uses them on another listing but just use my image link(not ebay hosting)
then you can swap the image for something a little less flattering to their auction ;)

I host all of my pictures off-ebay for this reason - I have had photos stolen in the past, and it is annoying when you are selling designer label clothes and have spent a lot of time and money getting them photographed properly for some chancer to copy them.Fortunately eBay REALLY do not like anythjing goatse related, so a quick renaming and uploading of my images screwed up their listing, and got them Naru'd in the process.
