Morning
Welcome back Valli, hope the internet behaves!!
Bossy Beaver teddy, sounds like fun, lets hopwe it behaves as well!
Piggers, if I was nearer I would come and help you for the day, but it is a long way to you. hugs any way x
Advise from the FL please, (not medical as I have enough of that)
For one reason and another, I am going to be a carer for approx 6 to 8 weeks, for someone who has a fracture shoulder, who is 70 years old, male, mobile enough, but MUST not move this shoulder for the 6 to 8 weeks, as you all know I work 7 days a week at 2 different jobs.
So the advise is what food, and clothes, I thought zip up clothes, button up shirts, food wise, I thought anything during the day when we are out that does not need cutting up, soups, sandwiches, pre portioned food, to heat in microwave, fruit, yougurts.
Any other ideas that I might of missed?
To save him getting bored during that day, he will have telly, internet, can go for a walk, chat to neighbours, books. (rulled out are driving, swimming, gardening and form of sports etc)
I am also going to struggle with his hospital appointments etc because of work and lack of buses etc, so am going to check out what I think are known as hospital cars etc. Anyone any thoughts on this?
Any way daily stuff is done
Lunch made
OH on cooking duty, while I do pick up of said injured person from airport.

Sorry, Kazwookie, you've thought of stuff already that I wouldn't have imagined, so I'm not going to be of any help at all. I hope it goes well.
Since Mrs Dog died I've fluttered a bit and the house looks absolutely fine. I hate it. I had no idea how much extra housework having a dog created which makes sense as I've been with dog for seven years and three years flying, but they are so worth it even though I whinge endlessly about having to do it.
The eclipse has been and gone here, but I went out to feed the birds at roughly the time it was 85% and they were all around. Happy little hen blackbirds; I just love them.
Missing Lamewolf's cheerful daily posts; I hope she's having a lovely, lovely time on the cruise.Better is good enough.0 -
Morning all. My only flying this morning has been starting to catch up with the washing mountain. I took the dogs out for a walk to coincide with the eclipse (wouldn't have known if it weren't for all the press - bright and sunny here) and encountered an aquaintance in a car crash on the way back. So having hung around to help, we've only just got home.
Need to say that although our neighbour wasn't hurt, the look on the partner's face said it all - they should have taken away the keys. Only damage was to the car and the road sign.
Anyhow, next is washing up, quick hoover downstairs, top up vases and I'm going to do my nails. Gardening can wait, and I can wear gloves anyway.
Hope everyone is having a great day.Spend less now, work less later.0 -

Morning all
Flying limited, new door still being fitted, builder is good but oh so slow.
Pilates was good, eclipse non evident. Washing on the line. May do a bit of gardening now as the sun is out.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Hi
We saw a bit of the early eclipse just before school but then it clouded over - typical!
DD was up with a temperature in the night. She's ok but tired so no ballet today. She's just had some lunch but now lolling about watching Peter Pan so it's just as well really. Groceries bought and put away, and I've dusted and vacced upstairs.
Have also done the dining room, kitchen and LR next. Just tidying, dusting and vaccing for now. We have picnic tea for later and I'm not mopping floors until everyone's gone home.
Crikey we all need a lie in tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
Next VIP sale was disappointing as ever. Didn't buy anything. Did manage to get DS some jeans and school trousers from Mr A and a pair of sports sandals for his hols - he needs to try them on after school.
I've ordered some cropped trousers and birkenstocks for me too. Ooh must start writing holiday lists, less than 3 weeks to go! Euro's first! I've already done the online checkin and printed our boarding cards

Unloaded and reloaded dw and took the rubbish out. Just had lunch and going I crack on for the rest of the afternoon!
Oh, and we had another offer on the house. A little lower than the minimum that we can accept but not a long way away so hoping they will up it a little bit! Fingers crossed! Still got another viewing tomorrow!

I still have the boy at home off school for the 48 hours, but he is now well and bouncing off the walls..... I've decluttered half a wheely bin full of brambles from the garden though - looking great, but I've still got at least another full wheelybin amount to get through
not my most favourite of all jobs.
Kazwookie - clothing wise you're right, stuff that goes over the head can be a right pain unless it is very very loose and stretchy and there is someone to help. Shirts - maybe a size too big, and a zip up fleece for example would be helpful - likewise elasticated waistband trousers as it can be quite a challenge to do up trousers one handed - might be worth checking he can manage to get to the loo alright in what he's wearing if he's alone. Slip on or velcro fastened shoes too as laces will be a challenge.
Check he can get in and out of his chair too - sometimes if the chair is a bit low they can struggle to get out them without using both arms to much up with. You can get chair-raisers from mobility shops - OTs can order them too for free, but depending on how long you have to wait for an assessment you might consider doing that sort of thing yourselves.
There might be other adaptations that would be useful - like a bath seat, so it could be worth asking for an OT assessment? In our area rapid response teams are available to put in some care initially for a short period and do the assessments and get equipment in place - it might be worth talking to his GP to see whats available and if a referral can be made?
food wise - tea in a thermos flask, jug of cold drink/water made up and to hand, sandwich left in the fridge or something to microwave - beware ready meals with film that needs removing as its impossible one-handed. snacks like cheese and crackers/biscuits easy to access. Anything that he has to twist off is going to be hard as its a two handed job - so if he's making his own tea maybe leave some milk covered in a jug in the fridge so he's not having to open the milk each time. I've known friends to do a big cook up for a few days worth in the fridge and the freezer, just so they're not starting from scratch with cooking each day.
He'll probably need help with washing - back/underarms/feet etc - a strip wash at the sink will probably be easiest. Might need help getting dressed/undressed and ready for bed.
Hospital cars - depending on his eligibility for hospital transport really - most trusts are cutting this back massively and you normally need to have significant disabilities/medical needs for transport. There might be a volunteer service available? Otherwise booking a taxi might be just as easy depending on the distance/cost. Most hospitals have a phone by the exit with a freephone for calling a cab to get home.
Lots of best wishes with it really, I'm sure it will be a challenging 2 months for you, I'm sure you can count on some cheerleading from the flyladies to help you through it.

Plan is to do all of this when I get back, but might leave the filing as it is all in a neat pile and will make more mess before I can file it properly!
