  • Hi Flash friend

I know its hard to believe its only 7 weeks away. Im not sure if we are going to "peak" running out of time. I think she is just rushing to get it finished. She doesn't see it but I am stressing myself so much as she really wants to go to Grammar school with her friends. What a nightmare ! Good to have this forum for support :-)

  • My DD got 83% and then down to 66% this week. I'm trying not to stress as she says the boy beside her got a lower mark too! My friends keep reassuring me the marks will improve. I hope they are right!!!!:(

  • Hi...New to all this but really need somewhere that people understand what I am going through. This is my first experience with the AQE and to be honest I'm sorry I ever started to put my daughter through it. She has just turned 10 in late June so is one of the youngest in her year. She's really stressed over this to the point she's crying almost every day in and out of school even through reassurances from myself snd her teacher. She has done so much work and really wants to do well so to pull her out at this point isn't really an option but she just can't seem to make the score she wants. It's so stressful and unfair!! has anyone any advise on how to keep them a bit calmer

Hi Nic B !! - welcome to our wee thread :)

Feeling like you tonight that so much work has been put in to pull out at this stage and it is not what DS wants - he still wants to do tests.
We are trying to play it all down but isnt really working. Bought the kids Bach rescue remedy pastilles and told him it was to calm his fluttery tummy when doing test - even just for mind over matter to try and stop him panicking.
Hoping now that school doing actual old AQE tests that things might improve.

  • Personally I think the whole system is wrong! Selection at age 11 certainly doesn't determine future success. I often think the local secondary school would be the better option but it's hard when the child had their heart set on a grammar school. Glad to hear I'm not the only one stressed out.
  • Another dip in marks here! My DD came home today with a 70% score on
a past aqe paper after being in the early 80s for the past month! She skipped a whole page of questions unknowns to herself. I think she was rushing too much?

I think the whole system is so wrong too! They're only children!! For us lots of praise and financial bribes have kept my dd calm and more focused (I realise the bribes may not work for everyone!).;)
  • Hi BOBS - we had 81% today but 50% last week ! Its just a roller coaster. Scores are usually in the 60's but just no consistency really. Just a nightmare the whole thing really ! Her birthday is in April which I am hoping goes in her favour but with reading posts on here I'm not sure if it makes much difference. I just wish the whole thing was over to get some normality back in this house !
  • Mia Mam they are still good results though. I wish those scores came home to my house. You just feel for the kids so much really don't you. If bribery works then happy days, anything to make life easier for us all. Good luck xx
