Had the conversation with Mrs SJ last night and told her the simple solution is for her to get a promotion to double her wage and that I can become a kept man, who can potter about doing 12hrs a week delivering for Amazon to get some beer money! She was having none of it, but I'll leave the thought stewing for a few days and come back to it...SuperSecretSquirrel said:
Well this is downright spooky... Our current circumstances aren't so different, my proposed solution is exactly the same as yours, and my OH's reaction was exactly the same as your wife's... What are the chances?

Well we had a lovely weekend, and certainly maximised the sun on Friday & Saturday. On reflection too much food and too much beer drunk and I certainly felt the excess during my run on Sunday afternoon!
On the one hand I was really proud of estate for the VE day stuff. All the bunting and decorations were great and plenty of people having their parties on the front. We stayed to ourtselves and spent the day in the back garden and then we headed for walk at about 7pm... Thats were we were less proud of the estate. Lets say that the social distancing measure had been forgotten about by may of the cul de sacs, and 1 in particular was enjoying a 20 strong 'conga line' with both adults and children. And definitely no rope between them.
Anyway onto my financials. TT pot was OP's yesterday and despite a slow start it finished the week strong and reached £4.10.
Pot was restarted with a £1.01 TT this morning.MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......6 -
Wow, a conga is definitely not social distancing! 😳 Sounds like you did well to stay clear of the festivities Jimmy. Glad you had a good weekend though.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Some people are just unbelievable. I suspect there was a lot of partying on Friday and I just hope we don't see a spike of infections in the next two weeks as a result.6

Anyway onto money matters... The only significant happening is that I've started my second partial transfer of pension funds from workplace to SIPP. I've decided to go for a partial transfer every 6 months, which should be an approx transfer of £5k each time. The last transfer took 5 working days, so I'm expecting similar for this one as well. Both our ISA's have now recovered following the March drop.
This morning I TT'd £1.08.MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......6 -
Well the process for DS1 returning to school has begun (he's a year 6 pupil). Initial letter off school with a request for our wishes to send him back in. Their plans seemed fairly comprehensive to me. A follow up letter this morning to say that school may not be able to grant every pupil access to school, and that they'd use reception as the priority, then year 1 and finally year 6. Seems the wrong way round to do it to me, but hey ho. I suspect the issue is the number of pupils that are children of key workers in other year groups. Added issue is that out school has double classes for each year so outside space and hall space is hard fought after! Although he doesn't realise it, we're coming to the end of motivation for home schooling and I'm hoping he can go back for some interactions with his friends.
I've also started the process of tidying up our accounts again. With all the interest rates falls it seems pointless to have so many current accounts. So come the end of lockdown we will be streamlined into 2 current accounts (1 for bills and 1 for everday spends). A Marcus account for our EF, and 2 e savers attached to a current account (1 for Christmas and 1 for holidays).

I think it's the early years first because of the need for socialisation at that age. And my sister (with a 3-year-old) would definitely argue that they *need* to socialise - with *anyone' but their parents (she's getting a lot of 'I hate you', 'I'm not your friend' etc., which is definitely not my normal niece). Tricky though, because time for year 6 to give them some confidence before going up is also very important. But I suspect going up to secondary school is going to look very different this year too...Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I also have a Y6 - and would argue that there is a massive need for them to get transition time. Reception and Y1 can catch up on their learning through play - the 'growing up' at the end of Y6 is a different issue....I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £204
