    Debt-free and Proud!
Frayed knot I'm now fully on board with your idea of getting paid for the extra day. Not quite brave enough to approach the boss, so it may have to be a cowards/moral stance of having a lazy work day (at least I'll know)!

:rotfl: Re. the extra day. I asked my wife if she was getting paid for it at the start of the month.
Alex thanks for delurking to say howdy. I lurk in your diary! At times there seem too many diaries to find the time to full committ to! No attempts are feeble it's just everyone's circumstances are very different and for me a major thing is the positive feeling that we're making a difference to our futures, no matter how big/small. I really hope I can keep up the commitment of the last 12months and I'm fully expecting many blips in the next 8 years, therefore I'm 'making hay while the sun shines' so to speak!

So, you already know what a prat I am, then. :o :rotfl:

The sad thing for me is the fact I'm making no real difference to my future, which is frustrating in its own way, but know I need to try to learn to be as sensible as possible with money or I'll end up spending the money my parents worked very hard to achieve. At some point I realise that may happen but I couldn't forgive myself if my son saw nothing and do see it as my responsibility to not allow my son to one day bankrupt the family either. On the plus point should my mortgage be paid by the time I sell the house, it would be quite the bonus but I suppose these reasons make me far less committed than someone "self made".

Completely understand wanting to do as well as you can whilst things are good. I had that attitude for the majority of last year and did rather well. Spent the money on a car rather than the house but that's a whole other story!
Debt free you've been quiet and I hope operation recovery is going as it should. I'm really sticking this month to your OP's every Sunday idea and I'm pleased to say I've had TT pots of £5.01 & £5.51. Take that interest rates!

Well the week is off and running. Typically it's half term and the boys decide to wake up earlier than a school day. Now I'm not complaining as ours boys are fabulous with sleep but I've got the dreaded cough and really could have done with an extra hour to sort myself out before refereeing the 'nerds & monsters or adventure time' disagreement! Even the dog was disgruntled!

85p TT'd and £2.51 received off Quidco so I OP'd via faster payments. I also had 12p interest credited to the everyday saver that holds the TT's. Since pregnancy I've also been putting £100 a month to one side for any purchases (Pram, Moses basket etc...) and the remaining will cover the 6 weeks that Mrs SJ is on statuatory pay to boost the coffers! That's why the interest as so amazingly 12p!!!! I'll add that to the weeks TT pot.

Wow, long post for a morning!

Honestly have no idea how the spreadsheet fiddlers keep up with the daily interest etc.

As for your sons :rotfl:. No "nerds and monsters" here (never heard that one before) but did have one little boy dragging me out of bed at 7am this morning to go for a dog walk.
    2018 totals:

    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500
  • Without my spreadsheet I'd stand no chance of succeeding!

Well our £5k gifft gas been paid into our account today. It's like the elephant in the room though, with neither of us brave enough to make the vital decision!

Great gift of the £5K - funny isnt it when we get choice we tend to have to take time to think about it!!! With no choice we just knuckle down and get on with it!:rotfl:

OK so TTs for last week were:£1.68

Did nt qualify for the First Direct mortgage due to the breaking of my leg and subsequent loss of income tax year 2014-15 :(:(

Am getting advice from an independent financial advisor which my accountant has recommended so we will see what that does.

In the meantime its half term so I will do one thing each day which helps me to repair finances and get decluttered. So tomorrow is another reclaim (about £250) and money back for late train to Cornwall (about £50 possibly). Wed is going to be flea bay or gumtree for about 20 items. Thurs another fleabay or gumtree day and Friday is gonna be moving bank account from Bclays to First D!rect - all ready to go and FD can do all the work even although I already have an account there and sadly wont get their £100!
Will let you know how I get on

  • Shame aboutFD, will your credit score scupper you with other lenders?

Ali, we have a few more days yet whilst the cheque clears. I work 3 long days mon-weds then have a Thursday off, so I'm sure Thursday will be talk and decision day. We're very similar in that whatever we decide it'll be all or nothing! My current thoughts are to use it as a house buy gift, OP it all and pretend we never had it anyway. We fortunate that house doesn't need any work, and a new kitchen was planned once house paid off anyway as it'd be saved for by the time Mrs SJ decided on colours! That said I've no idea where Mrs SJ's mind is wandering...!

£1 TT'd this morning continuing our frugal Feb. Our direct debits dats are 26th-28th so hopefully the current account no activity can continue another 10 days or so!

  • A total NSD today. None from me, none from Mrs SJ and none from the bank! :j

How do you manage to have an NSD when it's half term?

Issue was not my credit score which is at 98% but my income over 2014/15 tax year (am self employed sole trader )which due to broken leg and PIA insurance (refused to cough out as I did not break leg while at work - swine!) was about 1/3 rd of usual amount - it was a very polite version of 'computer says no' so am looking at other ways!! Independent Financial Advisor here I come! :-)
NSD for today and Mon :-) BTW

Oh, that line , just how many insurances do people take out only to find it doesn't cover them for whatever they are claiming for ? Know loads - oh it'll pay my mortgage if i'm made redundant ? what do you mean - it doesn't cover me

used to be self-employed and would have argued the point that as self employed, we worked 24/7  :D so it did happen while I was working :p
