some dad's are so shallow hey.
he took a house in order to not think about his little girl being boned by a rufty tufty builder every night!:rotfl:0 -
True, but I'd PREFER someone to have their own place, or savings at least. As would some women. That's not shallow, that's just common sense.
And from a womans point of view, biologically they should be more attracted to someone in a good financial position, as that will provide their future shared genes with more chance of surviving and propsering.0 -
Not if they're past it (almost!) like me!
You look at things differently as you get older, my OH had naff all when I met him (he's on a DMP now - I got that sorted), everything is in my name - and I've never been happier in my life. I have no worries of what might happen, that's where trust comes in - and if I'd looked at the bank balance and property portfolio of every potential suitor, what would that make me?
(Although one with an Aston Martin would be nice!) :rotfl::j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

I'm very not obsessed with possesions, status etc. I really hate keeping up with the jonesness. It's just weak insecure people being manipulated by greedy sly companies and advertising.
That's why it'd be nice not to have to think about these things as would be the case if you were in similar situations. I think now that people are settling down later in life, it's more of an issue. My mum and dad got together in their early 20's and had nothing.
I've worked hard since I left school and have done Ok. It'd be neglectful and naive of me to risk that and my future.
I've seen many a bloke screwed and then screwed.0 -
So, you wouldn't have PREFERRED it if that 1. He wasn't in debt at the time? 2. He had loads of cash, so you neither of you ever had to work again and you could devote your time to each other and your future family?
I'd say you'd have to be mad to PREFER that he was in debt at the time. No?
That's what we're talking about here. Not the be all and end all, but prefer, as per the thread title.0 -
Not sure about the shade of yellow of the tool belt... might clash with his bare skin...lol!!
Much prefer clean men to grimy too!! :rotfl:Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
And I'm definitely not saying you need money to be happy, that's clearly not the case, but I'd much prefer to be retiring by 40 to enjoy life with someone who by 30 had something to their name.0

If anything it's bought is closer together because I've helped him get his finances sorted (and realised I had to get things organised too - over reliance on credit cards is NOT a good thing!) and so between us we are sorting things.
We're not having a family in the future - I have 2 grown up kiddies and really don't want to start all that again - and I would always work, even if I won the lottery.
In a way his debt has been 'educational' for both of us - my attitude to money has certainly changed (for the better). In spite of his debt we are still together, 3 and a bit years later - so it can't be all bad!
And we have the debt free date to look forward to as well - which spurs us on no end.
My ex husband is now rolling in money, mortgage on huge beautiful expensive house paid off, stocks and shares coming out of his ears, 3 timeshares, huge car (he re-married very well LOL) and neither he nor his new wife work - and he's as miserable as sin and is now a trainee alcoholic - so I think I'll be happy as I am! :rotfl::j Almost 2 stones gone! :j
