Benefits and children leaving home.

So, what happens when parents rely on HB and other benefits to pay the rent and bills, then their child(ren) leave home and they are no longer entitled to the same amounts?

You either downgrade your house, or dig deeper into your pockets.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Get a job :j0

When the child tax credits and child benefit stops, then that's because the youngest has hit 18, so why on EARTH would the parent(s) not get a job at that point? Why would someone expect the state to keep forking out for them to sit at home all day, watching daytime TV indefinitely?!
Some people are fed these benefits for years and years, and are utterly aghast when the handouts stop, and they have to actually go out and earn some money themselves.
But YES that is the answer; drag yourself away from the tv and start looking for work. Oh, and get some board and lodgings off your kids still living at home too. They can't live there for nothing!!!(•_•)

I work from 8:30 until 4pm then do extra jobs until around 6pm, 7pm and sometimes even until 10pm.
Still not enough.
My daughter is nearly 8 only. I have 10 years to figure this out.0 -

Oh wait, I know the next answer: "move to a cheaper area" "move to the other side of the country" (and lose your job)
It is SO simple.
I'm afraid it IS so simple. If you cannot afford the housing costs where you are living, then moving may be the only viable option.0 -
Failing getting a higher paid job or a pay rise, moving to a cheaper property is an option.
Maybe a second job, or renting out the spare room is an alternative.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Yep. And lose job, family and friends in the process.0 -
If you work full time and can't afford the rent either get a better job or a 2nd and 3rd job or yes move areas......There are jobs to be found in every town in the UK.
Homeowners who lose their jobs or hours get reduced don't have the luxury of housing benefit they may get help with the mortgage interest payments but they don't kick in for a few months and are time limited.0 -
Plenty of people move or decide to work away from their families to afford rent or mortgage payments....not everyone thankfully wants to rely on handouts to pay the way without trying to help change their own circumstances.0
