I am over 60, my OH is over 70 and twice recently we have been greeted with 'hi guys', once by an estate agent and once by a waiter. Plain weird.0 -
Really annoying when a waiter asks you what you want to drink before your bum has actually settled on your chair, let alone having been given enough time to look at the wine/drink list. Even more annoying when this is the only drink you are offered during the course of the whole meal. I feel like grabbing the staff, sitting them down and explaining that tips are usually based on the total price charged to the table - so if they checked more frequently (or at all!) if drinks are needed they would increase their own income. It's something I worked out for myself as an 18 year old waitress and isn't rocket science, and I really can't understand why waiting staff (and their managers) don't seem to grasp something so basic.0

When they bring you the bill in Pizza Hut / Express and the waitress draws a smiley face on the bottom along with a short message and her name.
This is generally after giving very average service0 -
One hate of mine is when we've eaten and the waitress/waiter asks if we would like to see the dessert menu to which we state " no thanks were full" They then walk off and that's the last you see of them. Either offer some more drinks or the bill! I'm not going to sit here for another hour for no reason!
Also I can't bare it when they recommend what's good on the menu. Firstly you have no idea what my taste buds like and secondly surely you should be recommending everything...?!0 -
I worked as a waitress for almost seven years and my pet hates were:
1. Customers assuming my colleagues and myself were stupid; actually most of us were college/university students.
2. Customers allowing their children to run riot around the pub. Having to play dodge the child while carrying hot food was great fun.
3. Customers who didn't actually know what they wanted to eat and caused massive queues at the food till.
4. Drunk and abusive customers.
5. Customers who spent all day in the pub and forgot to take their children home with them when the pub closed (this seemed to happen quite a lot).
6. People who would drink and drive, I would always report them.
7. Mystery diners.
8. People complaining about the quality of the food (I worked for Brewers Fayre/Brewsters).
9. The chefs and kitchen staff who got paid a lot more money to open packets and operate microwaves but didn't have to deal with customers.
10. Not very money saving but the endless 2 for 1, £5 off vouchers we seemed to accept were a PITA. I loved spending hours at the end of a busy shift sorting through dozens of money off vouchers.
Although some of the customers were  I loved working in the pub and have some great memories of Bank Holiday disasters and chefs walking out.Attempting to make £2021 in 20210 -
Dirty glasses.
People on mobile phones whilst eating.
People using knife in left hand, fork in right.
Kids on electronic devices rather than talking with parents etc.
Waiters who top up your wine.
Having to ask for the same thing twice.
Long time between asking for bill and getting it.
Having to wait even though booked a table0 -
Electronic distractions:
TV's (even with the sound down).
Noisy games machines.
Loud music.
The pub as a place for a quiet drink and conversation with friends seems to have all but died out in many places.
As these distractions have become more and more common two things have happened:
1) I, and a lot of people I know, have just given up using pubs.
2) There is an incessant bleating from the licensed trade about pubs closing down because people aren't using them. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

With the contactless payment thingys in our local Wetherspoons this is often quicker and easier than paying cash.0 -
Loud music in a pub/restaurant .... all that does is make everyone TALK LOUD so they can hear each other, which makes everyone TALK LOUDER so they can hear each other over everyone else.0

Pet hates of mine are:
Unruly kids
The parents of said kids who allow them to be unruly
Dirty glasses
People who don't wash their hands when they've been too the loo
Music too loud
Being asked several times during the course of my meal if everything is ok. -if everything isn't ok I will tell them and if it is and I received good service etc, they will know by the tip I leave- to be asked when i. Trying to eat/converse with whoever I'm with and someone coming over and saying 'is everything alright for you' is just rude and plain annoying ( not even an excuse me or sorry for interrupting).
