Renovations and Repayments.

Today brings a small house update.
I've spent some time fixing dripping taps, not exactly a major project but it's nice not to hear them all the time. Tomorrow I'm going to move onto the tiles in the kitchen. Also managing to slowly de-clutter the house, it's nice that the place is starting to look better in rooms that guests usually don't see.
Nothing to report for the savings, though I'm aware I need to find some motivation from somewhere to have any hope of reaching my target. However, motivation seems to be something I am lacking in and have been for a while. Life seems a whole lot less worth living since my son is being educated at school. I hadn't realised just how much time I spent furthering his education and making his curriculum fun, memorable and informative, I was good at that. Soon the house will be finished and there will be nothing left that I'm good at, then I really will be surplus to requirements.2018 totals:

Back to the teaching idea Alex - sounds to me like you could be aninspirational infant school teacher.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Gosh Alex the days will fly by and you'll never to surplus to requirements. Its not just the educating that's important - but giving him a secure and loving home to come back to daily -and all those cuddles and stories and him telling you about his day. Just because he goes to school does not mean he isn't learning his values etc from you both - so make sure they are positive and upbeat.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
Hi Alex, have you thought of offering your services to your local hospital. There are so many children who are struggling and perhaps it would be interesting to see whether you could incorporate music into their days? Or educational sessions?

Thank you, GG.
I think I would really enjoy teaching if I could get into a stable mindset. Not really sure which age group I'd choose if I do ever apply for the PGCE course as I like teaching all age groups and levels. However, as it stands I think I'd be letting pupils and colleagues down.

I know it's about more than educating and I know a lot of parents say this but my son means everything to me. Not sure about never being surplus to requirements, there was a point in my life I thought exactly that about my parents, we didn't speak and all I wanted from them was an inheritance. Unfortunately, had I carried on being the person I was then, I'd probably still think that now. They shouldn't have forgiven me but I'm grateful they did.2018 totals:

I'd not thought about this, although I will need to put myself together a bit before seriously looking into it. Currently I teach a boy not much older than my son who is very ill and may not live to see his teenage years. Whilst I enjoy teaching him, after the lesson I can't hold it together, not sure why life is so cruel and unfair.
Since I started volunteering at the school, I've realised that trying to help those less fortunate is a good thing to do. Unfortunately, this has also made me very sad to see how little some people have, I suppose I have a sheltered life.2018 totals:

Thanks, Muser.
I hadn't thought about it like that. Usually, I wind up feeling guilty for the fact I'm physically well or have had opportunities they will not get, yet am not a very nice person and probably don't deserve my good fortune.
The voluntary job is in part selfish as it makes me feel a bit better about myself for 'giving something back'. I know it shouldn't be about that, though.2018 totals:

I really wish I hadn't set the new saving target of £12,000 as it's the end of September and I'm getting nowhere. At the moment I'm not in a good state of mind and this is just another thing to worry about as I don't want to fail to meet my target. Not really sure where this year has gone in all honesty, it seems to have flown by. Whilst I've done quite well, I think I got over confident about my ability to make extra money and set a new target without considering potential set backs.
Don't know what to do now as I don't think going back to the previous target of £10,000 and saying I've exceeded it is right due to the fact I set myself a new target. However, I really don't want to fall short, fail to meet my target and then wonder what the point is before going out and spending all the money on a 'toy' for myself. Might as well admit, my willpower for being financially sensible is rather low at the moment. I know £10,000 would buy a nice TR6 or a nice classic Bonneville and a '60s Speedmaster to replace the one I sold whilst paying debts.2018 totals:
