Are you permanently living in Spain, now?
Yup, and life is good :D. Having to resist puppies though, they seem to be everywhere .

A good way for little one not to feel he's missing out is to say on the way to school that you'll be doing something boring that doesn't like, like paying bills or cleaning or whatever. Then you can suggest something nice for tea and a good activity for you both in the evening, favourite game or book Tec. I found making my day sound dull and boring worked quite well.

There's less than 20 parents at my son's school, not sure how many cliques that makes ... :rotfl:. Still, they are daunting.

Glad to hear life is good. :) I may be taking son to Spain during the October half term holiday as I think it may be good to get away for a week.

Why not get a puppy? You're retired now, all the time in the world to enjoy nice coastal walks with a dog. :)

Thanks, Roland. :) Good advice, as always.

If I tell son he's tidying all day, he'll probably run to school ... :D;)

At the moment after school has been a bit of a mess because I've not exactly been in the right state of mind to do a lot. Yesterday was our first Saturday "school", he enjoyed that. Tomorrow I think I'll ask him what he wants to do after school, he doesn't seem to find it tiring, so hopefully will want to do something.

Going to take the risk in asking him what he'd like for dinner too ...:rotfl:

Would love one Alex but don't want to be tied to be back from anywhere at X time. In theory you see we have this great life where we go out for whole days. In practice we have stuff on four days so can't take off for the day and on the others there always seems stuff to do. Busy life, this retirement malarkey :D.

I agree with the 'make your day sound boring' scenario.

    Me too.

Not sure what weekend 'school' involves but do try to steer away from that and do things that can't be replicated in the week whether it's out in the landys, walking the dog, horse riding or just fun stuff with mum and dad (preferably together).

I used to have a Capri. We bought it from new what feels like many centuries ago and had problems with the silver metallic paint flaking off. Ford's did a complete respray free of charge and I had it done in black. Happy days!

    PM received and replied. :)

:rotfl: Re. the Capri, if the right one turns up at the right money, I will. Can't really say no to having a bit of fun for a few months and putting a few extra £££s towards the savings when it's time to say goodbye. :)

That's a fair point, I've found having a dog does take up time. For me it's a good thing but I can see how having one could a be a chore. Clearly, my parents are doing this retirement thing wrong, my mother is somebody that can't seem to find things other than work to do and father is content to be sat in his house all day.

Managed to make my day sound boring and let him pick dinner (breaded chicken, corn and jacket potato, so not too horrendous in spite of me having visions of a strange meal that just didn't work). He had a good day at school and introduced me to a friend who wanted to stroke our dog at the end of the day. Said friend also seemed interested in old Landies, so that was a bit of a win though his mother seemed to think a Series Landy is 'dangerous'... :( Riding to school in one of those with no seatbelt back in the day never did me any harm, etc. etc. ;):D

We just do some school activities on Saturday morning until noon, so not all weekend. The rest of the weekend is for fun stuff, so plenty of time. :)

As for fun stuff with my parents, apart from Sunday lunch, we tend to avoid them during weekends as he sees them most days, anyway.

:rotfl: at the paint! Metallic paint used to be porous, so that's why it kept flaking off. What model did you have?
