While a shower unit isn't Victorian, a completely plain glass enclosure shouldn't detract as the wall tiling will show through and those rainfall type shower heads have a Victorian look. Try pinterest for ideas.

    Thanks, maman. :)

We do need to look into this properly.

On another note, I've just written something on someone else's diary that has made me realise I have moved on. To cut a long story short I was illustrating that sometimes people with a good level of income can have no savings. I mentioned the situation my wife and I got ourselves into and which my parents bailed us out of. The poster said I'd probably have not got into the second lot of debt had my parents not bailed me out of the first amount, which would be true and realised that today I'm not so attached to a lot of the things I've collected over the years. A part of me wishes I'd been in a better frame of mind and we'd started again, on our own terms.

Saw my parents today. Sometimes I wish I didn't care about fulfilling their wishes. Today I actually thought about how much easier it would be had I not the responsibility to fulfil their wishes nor the sense of failure surrounding my existence.

Having suggested pinterest I had a quick look myself. If you just search something like Victorian style bathrooms there are loads of really good layouts to look at. You and MrsK could have a great time choosing something that would suit you both and the style of your house. Remember Prince Albert wouldn't have closed his mind to innovation.

That's interesting what you read on the other thread but also telling in what you said about your frame of mind. The very fact that you wouldn't do it the same way now shows just how far you've come.:)

I don't think anyone has ever suggested that you 'divorce' your parents but you must compartmentalise the need to do your duty by them. Your priority must lie with your immediate family and looking after yourself. Their attitude that you've nothing else to do but be at their beck and call and dictate to you is selfish and you mustn't give in to them.

I've had a look on pinterest. Also use that website for some education related things but find it hard to navigate / actually use - a lot of the pins are very small when you click on them so can't be used really. I may be doing something wrong though?

A lot of the bathroom ideas with standalone showers I didn't like but one seemed to work well.

Yes, my frame of mind has moved quite significantly over the last couple of years.

I do understand re. parents, it is difficult though.

Don't mean to be hard on you. I know it's not easy but I'm thinking of you and your family.

I'm sure rationing the time you spend there is the way to go. :)

Alex, I'm so glad to read the positivity that's coming through in your posts at the moment! Long may it continue!

My ex got one a while after we'd split up amicably and very proudly showed it to me - all I could think at the time was 'I wish I had a large magnet right now!'
