Oh how I hated the School gate chatter, I was frowned upon because I worked.:mad::mad: They are worse than kids and you just know that if that's the way they talk then the little ones are bound to pick up on that attitude

I know your pain on that one, both for being a working parent and then again for doing lots with son (too perfect parent!). I once heard a parent laughing to his son about tofu tim (his funny, in his eyes vegetarian version of the treefu tom character) in front of my son in pre-school when he was about 2 and a half knowing he was vegetarian and not approving. I made a complaint to the pre-school and let them deal with it (which they did very well).

I have also had a parent tell me in front of my son that it wasn't fair that I made him be a vegetarian and that he should choose and that it was cruel. I just pointed out they she made her son eat meat and hadn't given him the choice either so its no different.

People like to pick on difference, it makes them feel better for their inadequacies!

ps I have learnt to ignore it now as its just not worth it. Your son is intelligent, he will work out that they are idiots for himself!

It's pathetic, isn't it? At least they didn't seem to have anything to say about our working lives.

Unfortunately, I see too many children embroiled in adult problems through music teaching.

Nothing happened in front of my son. :)

Sorry to hear about your difficulties, it seems one can never do the right thing in parenting. Most certainly not in the eyes of others, anyhow. :(

I hadn't imagined it would upset me as much as it did, to be honest. I know people say cruel things about others. Whilst I'm most certainly not pleased to say this, I used to be awfully judgemental of others. In some ways I see my issues with mental health as a deserved punishment for my past.

Seeing them at school today was difficult. Can't say their opinions on me mattered but I don't want to hear people talking about my family in the way they did. The Headmaster likely thinks me enough of an idiot without writing to him about other parents.

Oh dear, can't say I have ever had any issues at the school gates with parents over the years, it doesn't sound much fun.:( I think I would be inclined to be excessively friendly, just to embarrass them into politeness :D

NG, I see no reason to speak to them again. The one making the comments had been to my son's birthday party but will not be invited again due to his son and mine no longer really being friends.

    Challenge 1 update:
Unfortunately, nothing done towards this or sold today.

I've been busy working, spending time with my wife and son and having dinner with my parents. My father's health is currently better than I've seen in a long time and they are still going to the old people's lunch on Fridays. Rather pleased and his attitude to life is much better as a result. :) Handed their dog back to them today, rather miss her this evening.

The conflicts (not school related) I have started to deal with after the realisation that burying my head in the sand is going to change nothing. Doesn't make it any easier though.

OOC: Yes, I'm pleased about my father's health. :) Yesterday wasn't so bad but for some reason my anxiety is getting worse and concentration is almost non existent as I'm constantly on the verge of a panic attack. Last night I woke in the middle of the night with one and had a terrible morning. Did manage to get out this afternoon as a friend with an American classic came to visit and we went for a drive to see the new Ford Mustang. Not buying but can see why one is tempting, almost from an MSE standpoint ... 5.0ltr, 500bhp for £37,000 new has got to be good value for money?? :D

My son asked me if I'm ill today. Really wasn't sure how to answer that which led me to a greater state of anxiety; what am I meant to do when he gets to an age of understanding people have mental health issues and won't accept that "Daddy is a bit under the weather"?! :(

Nothing much done apart from identifying the next set I'm going to try to sell and another large car part. Hopefully going to do something about them tomorrow.

    Hello Alex
I hope you don't mind me commenting on your diary.
Have you seen the World Health Org video called 'I had a black dog, his name was depression'?
It worth knowing about as it helps explains why 'Daddy is sometimes under the weather' beautifully.
I saw it for first time this week at a Stress Course I'm going to for anxiety/depression,
it's used in schools but I'm not sure what age from.
Hope this is of some use to you.

I remember sitting our children down and telling them about OH's depression in a basic fashion - it helped them to understand that his mood swings/ constant sleepiness etc weren't anything to do with them - and lifted a weight off of me of constantly trying to 'cover up' for him and pretend everything was ok

Great update - you have selected your next couple of items to Marie Kondo (declutter) :)

Not sure if this is relevant or not but will tell you anyway :)

A few years back I went through a "stage" where I constantly "worried" about absolutely everything, could never really relax. And when there was a "moment" when I realised I wasn't worrying, I worried cause there was "something" missing  so started to worry cause I wasn't worrying:o,

I now do not worry about anything much, what will be, will be.

I really can't give any advice, but I do hope your panic attacks settle and you feel more comfortable as time progresses :)
