Totally agree with greent, its supposed to be fun not stressful  The point is to do small things that are acheivable that make you smile , not life long ambitionsMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

I can't even think of one thing! That's quite sad really isn't it...
£11,000? That's an AMAZING total. Well done you

Alex, don't know if you've heard the saying 'a dream without a plan is just a wish'? So, you want a PPL, how are you going to pay for it (no, parental help not allowed!). Could this help motivate you? If you sold an item for £1,000 could you put £100 towards the PPL, £300 towards bills and the other £600 reinvested in more items to sell?A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
Mortgage Balance = £0

Not done my list yet too. I am having trouble finding personal things to do. It feels like I have so lost myself that I'm not sure who I am or who I was. It's not an easy task by any means.
As for renovations my roof is my biggie too £10k for me
My list has got a few more ideas but not sure I'll reach the target of 40. Some are probably a bit of a cop out. I've got four pieces of music I've wanted to learn for years on there, two things related to my MA and a few about improving subject knowledge (mainly in Maths and the Sciences) in preparation for potentially applying for a PGCE in 9/10 months. Three concern new places I'd like to take the dog for a walk and two concern cooking. I will post the full thing up when it's complete.
I know it's incredibly childish but spending on the house doesn't excite me, I'd rather be doing something (I think is) fun and sell the house. There are so many interesting things I could do with the equity, it's just a pity Mrs K wants to play being grown up.hiddenshadow wrote: »Well done on getting to £11k!
Can you do a "dream" 40 things list and then a "realistic" 40 things list? If PPL is on the dream one, could some flying lessons go on to the realistic one (I'm assuming they're still expensive but less so, and still working towards PPL). I find it helpful sometimes to imagine there are no barriers/logistics so that I can think about what I'm really interested in (including stuff like getting a degree again so that I can go to vet school even though I have little desire to actually be a vet!). It's easy enough to find all the issues with the plan after it's written down (so much school! I hate exams! how to pay for it?), but at least then it's sitting around in the back of my brain percolating.
Thanks, HiddenShadow.Getting to £11,000 has caused me a lot of stress, I think I'm going to set a "dream" and a "realistic" target for the savings next year so I don't feel too bad if I have a few bad months and can't save as much as I'd like to.
Regarding the flying, I think I'm going to have a go at gliding. It's much, much cheaper than flying and will give me an idea if I would like to save towards learning to fly at some point in the future. Yesterday, I was really fed up but today am a little more positive, life is not all bad, I don't think... probably going to regret saying that.
:rotfl: Re. the getting degrees, I don't even need to write that down as it just seems to happen once in a while. Mind, I like "school", exams I can deal with and paying for it just seems to happen. If you're interested in animal anatomy, is it worth reading a few books? I realise you won't get the practical application but if you're not really that bothered about being a vet and it's a passing interest at least you're doing some reading for if / when you decide to apply?Don't beat yourself up, Alex. The list doesn't have to miraculously happen by Jan 1st - and doesn't even have to ever happen - it's not meant to stress you
Thanks, Greent.
I think my problem is thinking it does need to happen by 1st January. Have always had issues with what maybe referred to as "perfectionism".2018 totals:

I do feel a bit better about it today.
Some of mine are very small e.g. new places to take the dog for a walk.heartbreak_star wrote: »I can't even think of one thing! That's quite sad really isn't it...

The saying sounds scarily like my idea of paying off the mortgage.
Mrs K has already told me I'm not to go to my parents to ask for money to do a PPL. Seems she knows my intentions too well. I don't think the PPL is going to be a 2016 thing to do realistically.
I think I could be motivated by such an idea but keeping track of the money (amount that needs to go where and for what) could prove quite difficult.2018 totals:

Hi Alex,I forgot to say that my list was 40 as I was turning 40, you are younger.so why not start with a shorter list of your age?MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

Gliding sounds like fun!Let us know how it goes.
I should get some textbooks and read up on things. My problem is laziness and too many interests - tough to motivate myself to read a textbook rather than knit/run/sew/read/insert-other-hobby-here. Maybe another thing to add to my "when I'm MF and not commuting/working full-time" list.0 -

Thank you re. the savings.
You'd be surprised how much I don't plan ahead. Plus, I have this terrible habit of not being able to spend money on myself...!
Have a wonderful New Year tonight - may 2016 be amazing for you and your family

Happy New Year, everyone.Hi Alex,I forgot to say that my list was 40 as I was turning 40, you are younger.so why not start with a shorter list of your age?
I think you've told me this before.I thought 40 was a nice number, not quite one per week.

Can't say I really plan ahead, HBS... or I do but later forget about it.As for the terrible habit, can't say I've ever suffered that one.
Thanks, we had a great New Year, hope you did too.2018 totals:
