I don't exactly have a great track record with gambling, though it's mainly involved drunken nights out at a casino with me trying to play the big shot during my younger years. Embarrassing, to be honest. :o

However, very interested if it's risk free, won't take too much of my time and will make a couple of hundred £££s per year. Ed, is this doable, please? :)

I don't know about year-on-year, but I started in September (after reading Ed's diary) and am at £187.65 profit thus far. Knock on wood, my only silly mistakes thus far have been to deposit money once with a credit card (incurred a fee) and I didn't finish placing a free bet once (which would have lost anyway, so just as well, but it could have gone the other way!).
  • Hello Alex,

Sounds like you've felt very overwhelmed lately. Virtual hug.

You may not be where you hope to be, but having read your posts, you have come so far in the last two years.

And your Christmas presents that you have made for your son sound amazing. If either of my parents had ever put that much time and effort into making something for me, I would have felt truly loved and valued. Great father. Really great.

Sounds interesting, I may look into it next year but certainly won't be risking any of my own money. :)

Overwhelmed could be one way to describe it but thanks. :)

Always trying to improve, likely never going to live up to the expectations I place upon myself, though. For the first time I'm beginning to realise that.

Thanks re. the presents, I try my best and think it means a little more to make something than just buy from the shops. Perhaps I'm just a sentimental old fool, though. I'm starting to look forward to Christmas now even if today has been dreadful.

Well, finally the Christmas shopping is over and the majority wrapped. All thanks to Mrs K, though. :o

Today has been dreadful, I really am not in the right state of mind to deal with my parents at the moment and this year we are staying there from Christmas eve to Boxing Day. On the plus side, son is very excited and he's particularly interested in the magic this year. Currently, he seems quite worried that we will be staying at, erm, (just for maman ;)) "the big house" ... ;) :rotfl: due to the potential of Santa not being able to find him. Had to tell him Grandmother had written a letter. :rotfl:

Cannot see him sleeping on Christmas eve!

Hopefully he'll be pleased with his gifts. :)

On the MSE front, we're not doing great and seem to be spending a lot of money. Tomorrow we've quite a big family day out (with in-laws), so that's not going to be particularly frugal. Will all be over with on Sunday, then it's time to think about some goals for next year.

Currently we overpay just under £250 per month on the mortgage. I told my wife about the extra £1 per day and she thought we could do an extra £1 per day for the first year, £2 per day for the second year etc. etc. She's decided 2016 is going to be the year for sorting out the finances and has agreed to do a spending diary in January.

This truly made me smile when reading it :):T

Hope Santa found The Big House and all is well. Thought of you last night when watching Downton Abbey. Is grandmother's turkey dinner as good as her beef?;)

It's nice to hear that. :) I just need to hope things go to plan, now.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Santa did indeed find "the big house".

Grandmother's turkey was rather nice, actually. :)

Thank you, NG. We've had a really nice Christmas, best in a long time. :)

Far too tired to write anymore and looking forward to my own bed.

  • Hi Alex

Glad you and the family had a good Christmas.

The thing that pleased me most about your post (not that you have to please anyone here) was "looking forward to my own bed".

    Happy New Year!

    Dolly,

Hope you had a nice Christmas. :)

:rotfl: Had a great night's sleep last night for once and as good as my parents have been over the past few days, I'm quite glad to have a quiet day at home. Tomorrow, we're doing it all again for my birthday. Parents refuse to let me not acknowledge them any longer (getting too old ).

Son absolutely loved his presents, both wife and I have some nice ones too. Including a mountain of chocolate and biscuits ... really must mean I'm old if I've got an age where it's appropriate for others to buy biscuits for me! :rotfl: Christmas day was the best in a long, long time: my son was very impressed Santa knew where he was, parents behaved, cousin and family came and the dogs had a great time. Even though my cousin's children are a bit older than son, it was nice for him to have some company roughly his own age. Roast being enjoyable wasn't all mother's effort, I helped with that. Think she was quite impressed considering I left home hardly knowing how to boil an egg.

Unlike some on here, I'm not dedicated enough to care about money until the new year and for once I'm going to use the "because it's Christmas" excuse. :D
