    Get the installer here:

    http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html

Perfectly legit, you're still downloading the installer direct from Adobe, Prodesigntools is a long standing, well respected site.

If you don't know the serial number, on CS6 you can go to Help > System Info and in amongst all the plugin info is the serial number. I assume it's similar on CS5.

The serial you actually enter has dashes after every 4 numbers.

I'd install CS5 on the new PC, if there are any problems contact Adobe, then figure out if you need to deregister from the old XP box.
  • CS5 is really really really old... I'd suggest you use some up-to-date free software, like GIMP or Inkscape (for vector graphics).

If you really insist on using CS5 :) then the most painless way is to install TeamViewer (free, get at TeamViewer.com) on both computers and remotely use CS5 from your new computer.

This is trivial to setup compared to virtual machines, should only take 20 mins. As everyone is saying, XP on the internet is fine, just don't use it to surf any sites you don't know and trust.

CS5 was launched in 2010 and the design teams on every major publication at the time seemed to be able to struggle by with it.

The idea that anyone would prefer gimp or inkscape over CS5 is the funniest thing I've read today.

In fact, the idea that anyone would prefer gimp or inkscape over even CS2 is still pretty silly.
  • Will look at teamview

Another scenario, after reading above comments, so if I connect Old xp desktop to router/ Internet but not access any sites, how do I access cs5 from the new desktop, which will also be connected to the Internet

Nothing wrong with connecting a desktop running xp to the internet.

You do appreciate that Teamviewer is just a way of remotely controlling your old computer with CS5 on it? CS5 will run the way it always did on the old computer, with just a slight overhead because of the remote monitor and keyboard/mouse.
If, as it sounds, you have no way of re-installing CS5 on the new computer, but do have to run it, just keep the old computer and use it exclusively for CS5. Maybe you can use a KVM switch so that you have two computers, but only one keyboard, mouse and monitor...

That seems ideal, any idea where I can get a KVM switch , reasonable price, and thanks for your help
The Xp desktop is Xp professional , and the new desktop is windows 7 professional
So yeah a KVM switch would be ideal that is compatible

This one is neat and includes all cables at a reasonable price < £20

I've bought a couple in past, no problems with them

I would seriously look at the Photographers Creative Cloud offering. You get PS CC and Lightroom for the bargain price of £8.57 per month, and continuous upgrades for as long as you subscribe.
