Dry Face Skin Help

Hi All
I have had dry skin for most of my life, I am 33 yo Male and I am looking for some advise regarding my dry face skin.
I have tried so many different products including E45, Cocoa Butter, Nip+Men, Dove for Men, Loreal for Men.
I have recently also been to see a dermatologist who recommended I use Aveeno Cream which is very good but the problem is its bringing out loads of spots on my face when I use it.
I have used it on my body and its been fine.
I am currently using a Morrisons Cocoa Butter lotion for my face which does an ok job but not really what I would want to use.
I was hoping someone might be able to provide me with some advise as I am looking for something that helps dry skin but also does not leave the skin greasy.
Thank you

I can recommend Oil of Olay creams, the Double Action day cream is good and doesn't leave my skin greasy. It's a very personal thing though. Though it's marketed women and is pink, if you can get past that :rotfl:
Also Eucerin Dry Skin Replenishing Cream is good, really improves dry facial skin but would depend on the individual if they found it 'greasy'. I don't but then my skin is exceptionally parched.
Hope you manage to find something suitable.0 -
I recommend to look for products which contain glycerin (rather than petroleum jelly)
If you can stretch to it, this range of products is perfume-free and very good quality. Boots often have them on offer and if there is an assistant available they are sometimes able to give out sample sizes if you want to try before you buy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Try rose oil, just a few drops, soaks in so quickly and is hydrating.Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0

Ok, this is far from scientific hard truth. But I have a lady friend who claim that oils, moisturizers and similar products messed up her skin. ( Temporarily )
This would be because when you apply fat moisturizers on your skin, the body will not produce as much natural fat and you will depend on the moisturizers to not dry out completely. When my friend stopped using the products, she went through hell for a month but then she was fine again, like before she started using all the products.
I do not know your situation though, sounds like a tough case if you have had it for so long. I would not waste any time and go to a doctor.0 -
I would try Coconut Oil, you can get a small pot from Savers for £1 and its brilliant stuffRead my diaryHere0

I would recommend that the OP tries oils because they can be very helpful for dry skin conditions. They do help lock in moisture which is quickly lost when there is insufficient natural skin sebum which normally prevents moisture loss.
There are many different oils, some have anti bacterial properties which can help prevent problems with bacteria. I have read that Rosehip oil can cause spots and I was wary of using it for that reason but I did take the risk and found it excellent for my skin, better than any of other oil and it did not cause any spots. Coconut oil is fairly good but is not really absorbed very well. It tends to cause a barrier which can be useful but it is not well absorbed in my experience. However I do love coconut oil, the smell of it draws me to it and I do eat a fair bit as well as use some on my skin.
There are lots of oils so it is worth reading up on different ones and which might work well for you. If you can get some small samples to try it might be worth doing so.0 -
Has anyone ever used the Botanics range from Boots, this product has had good reviews.
Botanics Mens moisturizer normal/dry skin SPF 15ml priced at £4.49.0 -
You should try dermalogica, their products have literally changed my life.
It's not as cheap as the the stuff you'd find in your local boots but it lasts a long time and is totally worth it.
I think Selfridges have dermalogica counters where you can get free advice and samples. Or check out the website... You can buy mini sizes to try0 -
Many of the moisturizers contain petrochemicals like paraffin and other nasty things which are not good for the skin or getting them into the body.
I have tried a number of such things including an unsented Boots moisturizer which was about £2 a bottle which also contained paraffin. That was not specifically for men, hence cheaper, but was unscented. I will not use such stuff any more.0 -

I've seen stuff a few sites and the best is a company in Jersey but even they are above my price bracket.
I also have very dry skin OP and find that prevention is my best method at the moment; some cleansers are overly drying. Opt for the non foaming type and a muslin cloth to make sure your skin is clear (if your skin isn't clear it will look dull and is more prone to spots). The use a toner or micellar water to get rid of any residue then a hydrating moisturiser.
Also try to work out if your diet is affecting your skin. Not eating a diet with enough oils or healthy fats in can mean your skin isn't getting the nutrition it needs.
20% of skin care is what you put on it (or make sure you take off of it). 80% of skin care is what you put in to your body (water, a balanced diet and getting enough rest). I was told this by a skincare professional from Dermalogica.0
