  • Doesn't time fly NM ? It doesn't seem that long ago we were all trying to come up with storage solutions . Do you feel now you can settle there once the jobs are done ?
How's your son doing ? My son isn't diy minded at all but can pay for trades . The only plastering that will be done here when I get the chance to start things off is the kitchen walls which were damaged getting thick , large heavy 70s tiles off . I'll be using easipanel with paint above . Bathroom has just on wall which was fully tiled but as that's plasterboard has some damage . In cases like that heavy grade lining paper is my friend so just a little fine surface filler , lining paper and bathroom emulsion and job done .
Sending finding the voucher vibes I put things down then forget where . Mind you part of the bi
g clearout is because I'm so sick of stuff I fell out of love with the house and in this day and age that's awful . My fault so I feel a bit GQ and can let things go .
I actually have a book called It's here somewhere but can't find it - oh the irony :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
    Take care of you

pollyanna What's easipanel? That may work because the main problem is someone had re-plastered the bottom third of the long wall and left a big valley. None of it is smooth. Our bathroom is like a corridor with shower, washbasin and toilet all in a row.
  • NM It's sheets of I think MDF . Comes in a couple of heights and can be cut for width . It needs painting with a suitable paint , my eldest daughter used satinwood and then cheaper versions in other areas .
I'm going for the tongue and groove version but you can get a panel style too . Homebase and B&Q usually show it online and the manufacturers have lots of online imformation under the name .
I'm doing it for speed and permanent solution and will also use it on the lower bathroom wall .
Your son may well have come across it in B&Q .
Much cheaper and easier than wood panels and my budget wont stretch to the real version ,or someone to fit it . When I mentioned my son paying for trade that was for his home not mine :D
There's a lot on the shabby chic thread about it if you search easipanel and Emma Kate and others really described using it well .

Thanks pollyanna. I could plaster the wall myself but I don't feel up to it at the moment and I think I am getting a little too old.

I don't think I will over spend and I certainly wont go fancy because I probably won't live that long after all I will be 71 in about 6 weeks so even without the cancer flaring up again I am not going to live that long.

It is the lower bathroom wall I am thinking of and tiling the lot would take for ever. I also have my height problem. I am getting past climbing step ladders. I could do the long wall and the end. The opposite long wall is part tiled. I thought improving the look of the bathroom would detract from it peculiar shape.

The two cupboards are to find somewhere to put things out of the way. With only the windowsill for storage it looks a mess.

This is DS's home as, yet he was 23 yesterday. He is still doing well with his Japanese. As he has no one to talk to in Japanese I think he is doing really well. He does have Japanese TV which helps. Their equivalent of the BBC.

Someone sent him some Manga to translate but he says, he will do it but he can't quite read it all yet.

I like the sound of easipanel too Polly, hadn't heard of that. I had a lovely day yesterday, hit one of my fav wee shops in the middle of a 70% off refurbishment sale, came out with soft slim trousers in deep purple and another pair in black, for £12 each. Then a purple & black Regatta jacket, and jam scone in a cafe ;)
Polly I've got 20cm of snow forecast for tomorrow, I dono what that is as I deal only in inches. But don't tell me cos it's probly one and a bit inches. 20 sounds better so I'll stick to it lol.
I got lovely blinds for my bedrooms, the man fitted them this morning. Not at all moneysaving as not cheap - but WOW. Been a long time since I got anything for the house that made me go WOW :D Plain cream open weave linen look. roller blinds. So elegant that I keep going through just to look at them :D Happyhappy.
Oooh and my other big achievement is that for 3 days I have cooked and it tasted like real food!

Wonderful mar did you actually watch it instead of reading? My problem is going back on the computer and watching a little too long on YouTube!

Glad you had a good day out. I could do with some new trousers with 70% off. I will have to look on line. love the sound of deep purple ones would go great with all my pink jumpers.

20cm is a lot more than one and a bit inches it is 7 1/2 inches. You will need your wellies.

Your blinds sound lovely. I saw some with pockets, thought they may help the cold bathroom as I broke mine a few months ago. They won't give me a price list. I am not getting someone out to measure if they are so expensive they won't tell me the price.

Has everyone else gone off somewhere hot, without us? I don't remember us having a full day with no posts before, other than Christmas.

Thanks Pollyanna, I'm doing really well, though am still very nervous about picking things up in case they're too heavy :o I have decided to trade in my good sewing machine for a smaller, lighter one, as I daren't lift it on and off the table any longer. DD1 has suggested I'd do much better to sell it on FB (not that i'm on FB atm, though of course I could join it) but I find the idea much too scary!

mar congrats on the successful cooking :T and on the lovely blinds.

ivyleaf I still have not told DS I can carry things yet after nearly 4 years. It makes sure he will come and carry things.
  • I'm working my way backwards . Ivyleaf I'm glad you're feeling a lot better . I'm still feeling the fear about lifting after the rotator cuff problems of a few months ago . I have one of the old heavy Kenwood Chefs which was packed away ages ago . I really miss it as it has all the bits that slice , chop , grate ,shred and mince which make life much easier . It used to live in a base cupboard but until the kitchen's sorted and it has it's own space I know I can be lifting it up to a work surface and then back down into the cupboard . Sewing machine will need an overhaul as it must be about 2 years since I used it . It's quilting one so quite heavy but has it's own space .
I don't do Facebook or similar either - I struggle to just navigate mse .
    Just noticed I missed the t off can't , see what I mean :)
