This fennel stuff that people gave to babies for colic................
When my baby brother had colic, (a long time ago, he is 71 now) mother use to give him Dinnefords Gripe Water. Do you think it was something similar? If so, it is gorgeous. I used to beg for a spoonful. Mum was reluctant to give it to me for some reason but I did hear years later that there was something vaguely alcoholic in it.
Hester! Shame on you! I had no idea that you bullied your L&M.

When the DS's were babies (1986/88) you could buy a fennel drink made by Milupa, which was granules. We often eat fennel raw in a salad with orange & radish, roasted in with other veg like onions, peppers, aubergine & courgettes, or DH likes it braised (but then I think its too much like soggy aniseed balls!)"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Hello all,
I've been back at work this week and the usual humdrum routine. But I have enjoyed catching up on the posts.
I'm with Hester on the buttering the veggies. I have always hated boiled cabbage and sprouts but found that I really enjoy them if they are fried in some butter. I used to be a vegetarian when younger though and love all other vegetables (with the exception of aubergine).
The problem we have is meat. The Mr has to have it every day. I tried to do meat free monday once-made a veggie meal from scratch and he later went out and got a burger!0 -
Perno, fennel, strawberries, blueberries ... All made by the devil
other than them everything else is ok ,
years since I have had any turkish delight , don't think it's veggie unless it's changed ?
Had a frys mint cream bar the other day , first in years , anyone remember the mixed fruit one?£223/ £250 GC0 -
Yes burtha I always preferred the white cream my idea of an indulgent chocolate bar. I think the mint one is a more modern one.0

Hi,
Just delurking to say if anyone isn't keen on sprouts, try chucking some mint sauce on them. Makes them palatable. Also on runner beans for a change.

My baby brother (born 1971) was given Dinneford's, I loved it! My boys were given Nurse Harveys as it was allegedly less alcoholic. The fennel stuff came in sachets, and it was free in their Bounty Boxes - remember those Candy?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Floss. My boys were born in '69 and '72 and if I'd known that Dinnefords was still around I would have cornered the market. Sadly, neither of them suffered from colic so I had no reason to look for it.
jamanda. Everything,EVERYTHING, (except perhaps banoffi pie, I wouldn't know, never tried it,) is improved by a liberal dose of mint sauce. Probably because I love vinegar so much I adore the stuff. Prefer homemade but the jars are better than nothing. A spoonful popped into soup, stews, mince, all veg, all meat, cheese dishes....................
I'm about to make my 'to-do' list for today. Those who know me know that I am living in one room in my house, but in my DS and DIL's home. The house is supposed to be going on the market any day now. Quelle Horreur!
After having the entire family staying over Christmas, plus the advent of a rumbustious puppy the house is still in turmoil and my room is the turmoilest of all.
Today's to-do list.....
Clear, tidy and pack up room.
