  • OH thinks it is probably because they all represent marginal parties so they weren't seen as 'real' competition. I tend to agree, although I also suspect it is because the big 3 parties lack substance in their policies and they know that their rhetoric sounds hollow. There were, of course, some jaw dropping moments and there was a lot of eye rolling on our part as well, mostly down to one particular man whose name I refuse to mention anywhere as I think he gets too much attention and that this suits him. Unfortunately I think the big three were rehashing many of the same policies and in one case I think they're proposal to save a few million pounds on one thing got spent three or four different times in the debate.

Spot on FP. I felt somewhat sorry for Cameron as he was always going to be on the defensive. Though not so much as I abhor his stance on benefits.

:rotfl: I had to google it. I can't condone violence, but in this case I won't object if someone else wants to go for it. Nod and a wink? ;)

A productive day...I think. Tea is cooking, as is bread and the We'll eat again syrup loaf. Unfortunately the bread rolls sort of ran into each other and now they've become a sort of bread sheet. A rather...large...bread sheet.:rotfl: I also did a loaf which, given it is not a sheet seems to have finished already and came out fine. Just hoping the bread sheet cooks in the middle.

Grandmasam I missed your RATS! story and your offer of bread and lemon curd...yes, please! I love lemon curd and very impressed your DGD made it.

Hi. I'm still here. We've just come back from a trip away and it has done us so much good. I feel more like me again.

Just had a lightning swoop through the thread since I was here last. I do a good speed-read but unfortunately remember very little.

I do remember that there has been a lot about cats - Ahhhhhh! I adore them and this is the first time I have been without one in my life. Our last puss went for her last big sleep a couple of years ago and we decided to have a break but having moved on to a busy main road I think the break will continue until we move again.

I lot of dissatisfaction with the medical profession. I can't join in with that although if I had been writing when DS2 was 6 years old and I called a doctor out at night only to be told that he had a sickness virus and to keep him hydrated, I may have waxed lyrical. When my own doctor came back on duty the next morning he was so disturbed that I had called a doctor out that he rang me to find out what had happened. When I burst into tears he came straight up, got DS2 into hospital - blue light job - where he was operated on for peritonitis and died 3 times on the operating table. He has a lovely long scar right across his middle but otherwise nothing to show for his ordeal. Thank goodness it happened when family doctors were just that and knew their patients well. If Our doc had been on duty that night DS2 would have been whipped into hsop, pretty smartish.
If you really want to hear me in full flow ask me about my dear Dad's last days in hospital where he died. That was unforgivable.

Love the spring pic. Mrs LW. Our snowdrops are over but primroses, daffodils and grape hyacinths are in full bloom.

Toomuchdebt (I think): When I was divorced a friend sent me this.

"Some women get married, it's true.
They think it's the best thing to do.
    But why spend your life
    being somebody's wife,
When you could spend it just being you?"

I've loved the 'just being you' bit.

Jazee: Agree with you about church. So does the Rev, strangely in view of her calling. We both think that too many churches are nothing more than holy social clubs, doing a lot of good works for each other. Part of the problem in our last church was because the Rev opened it up to the homeless, alcoholics, drug addicts, cross dressers and we loved them all. This thoroughly offended some of the hierarchy but we turned many lives round and are still in touch with a lot of them. We are completely unrepentant.

The cupboard is bare(ish) and I have a tea to make.

Mardather.....I thought I was the worst cook ever, but I can cook veg good and I dont boil the guts out of it and it ends up on the plate soft and tasteless , I always hang around in the kitchen when the veg goes on so I cook it just right ........
I can do a good roast , but I dont enjoy cooking at all nor baking , id rather clean the house , windows , oven , ironing , cutting grass , fixing stuff outside , digging the hens run over , but I dont like cooking ......

Oh Sheila I so wish you lived closer to me we could easily swap chores. Not only do I hate cleaning I am appallingly bad at it which makes me less inclined to do it lol

    [QUOTE

I think we're almost out of cookies, so will have to find a simple recipe for a cake or something else without eggs. I suspect the wartime books will come in handy for that.[/QUOTE]

I have a very simple cookie recipe if you want?
    225g butter or margarine
110g caster sugar (I use granulated)
275g plain flour ( I use SP self raising works fine)

Cream butter and sugar and add flour. Pull off small balls and lightly press down on a grease baking sheet. Bake at 170 for approx 10-15 mins til lightly golden.
These are so versatile as you can add any flavourings you like. I often split the mixture and make 6 of one kind and put rest of mix in fridge for another day so I can always have freshly baked cookies and the varieties are endless. I use chopped up chocolate, lemon and poppy seed, cinnamon and raisin, coffee just to name a few.
    HTH xx
Also a warm welcome to Toomuchdebt

So glad you and the Rev had a good break Monna and that you're feeling more like yourself - we've missed you :)
I think you and the Rev embody the Christian spirit as it should be - bless you both

Well said Silvasava - I agree.

So can I just ask where has today gone please? I haven't done a lot but have enjoyed myself not doing a lot.

    Another "silver fox" fan!!!! Yaaaay!

I found a bag of Jelly Babies in WalMart today. I went in to buy a new printer and somehow wound up in the imported foods aisle and cue, sunshine, rainbows and music. Jelly Babies, Jelly Tots and Flakes. Milky Bars, Curly Wurlies, and some German stuff that the husband likes, so I had to buy some things to make sure that they would continue to order the items.

Glad every one is well this Good Friday. Did I mention it's snowing again?????

I agree too silvasava. I would look around for another church Jazee.

So good to have you back Monna we all miss you when you are not here.

Hope you don't see any more rats grandmasam. We once had one in the kitchen. I put the dog in the kitchen to get it she ended up on the kitchen table along with me. It was only a baby. My ex killed it with the broom.
