The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times

Whilst I'm here, found a new recipe idea that was really successful. I'm on a bit of a budget food drive, since I'm heading for a garden expo and a food and wine show in the next couple of months and it needs to come out of the grocery budget since we're spending so much on house things.
Anyhoo, I had a container of polenta in the store cupboard and no clue what to do with it (most recipes include cheese and hubby is lactose intolerant).
Turns out, you can boil up the polenta (bring 2 cups water to the boil, add 1/2 cup polenta, whisk constantly until thick), pour it into a greased container, refrigerate. Then when cool, tip it out and cut into cubes. You end up with a great ingredient for putting into a veg curry or using instead of paneer. It's very light and it's lack of flavour is a great offset to something spicy. I made a hot tomato based curry with assorted veg (pepper, carrot, onion, broccolini) and just stirred it in to warm it through. Next I'm going to try it in a makhani sauce (creamy spicy).
I was also given half an unwanted Pack of quinoa. I boiled some up with a bit of carrot and potato, mixed in herbs, spices and a bit of flour, blended to a paste and fried like burgers. Delicious reheated too.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Thinking of all with aches, new jobs, stress, HBP, chronic disabilities, good recipes, etc.
A lovely community of sharing and caring and some days hilarious friends.
Yesterday evening we drove to my exMIL's...two towns over...to take her (and exSIL) for an 89th birthday dinner at a divine steak house. My DH accepted a long time ago that I love her and would remain close even though my ex is a xxx-xx-x-xxxxx!!!! (Use curse words of your choice but I've given a template for my own)
It was a wonderful time together. She is such an exceptional woman. She was beaming when her fried ice cream with a single candle came and we all sang Happy Birthday. She was really pleased by the love and attention and her new Ninja blender. I'm just so grateful for this 44 yr relationship!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Quinoa, oh the merry hours I've spent in the bathroom after eating it. It's the world's best laxative for me. I'm not sure why it has that effect as my normal diet is very high in fiber.
I'm having a lazy start to the day, hestering and a cuppa in bed, what more could I ask for.
Property viewing today and tomorrow if we can get an appointment.
Monna have a great weekend.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all,
Ivy, yes I think it is tension. Fortunately I feel right as rain this morning.
Fuddle--all of what others have said, but more specifically it means I can move my joints more than I should be able to. When I think I'm holding my leg or arm straight it looks like it is bent backwards a bit and I don't even feel it--it actually feels normal to me. I've had a number of injuries over the years primarily things like bursitis, tendinitis etc. I'm not very strong, so I tend to get into bad habits like locking my knees or letting my legs splay so my muscles don't have to work to hold me in place. Like Softstuff said, strengthening exercises like weights help. For some people it means their joins will just randomly pop out of place.
Hester good luck today!
Mardatha I've read that stroking a cat has been shown to lower blood pressure. My guess is that this probably is because it helps to reduce stress but it has got to be better than beetroot juice! Personally I feel about beetroot the way you feel about that green veg that shall not be named. I'd notice no matter what you blended it with! A friend once tried to trick me into eating a chocolate beetroot cake thinking I wouldn't be able to tell. I took one bite and had to excuse myself to spit it out. I knew instantly.
Mila what a lovely relationship!
We're off to do the shop this morning and then I'll do my chores this afternoon. Leftover stew for lunch today and one of the things on the menu for tea. I'm not sure which. Very busy week this week, OH has two late nights at work I meet my students and the big work project is ongoing. It is dark and damp here this morning so I shall be continuing with project cosiness. Interestingly the pink hydrangeas I brought in to dry which were a dusty brownish pink (original flowers are bright pink) have now gone a blue-y purple with a bit of gray. They look lovely. I'm very pleased with my accidental magic trick!0 -
I promise never to feed you quinoa Hester, or secret beetroot Fairyprincess. I wouldn't even have quinoa if it hadn't been free, it's quite expensive stuff... though it is cheaper than exlax :rotfl:
Hestering may replace rogering in common usagr. Seems somewhat... kinkier.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

FPk I have some hypermobile joints, but only my fingers and my knees. Our DGD is incredibly bendy though - when watching TV she will almost tie her legs in knots without realising she's doing it! Last time we were looking after her she was lolling on the floor and we noticed she had one foot on the opposite shoulder. She was perfectly comfortable
mila Your ex MIL sounds a sweetie, which contradicts what I think you are calling your ex-husband.but I'm so glad you have a nice one now
Quite surprised when I got home from church, all the stuff from the understairs cupboard is still where it was when I went out.0 -
FPK DH's niece has hypermobility and also a couple of other related issues, one of her shoulders is permanently dislocated now
Had a really lazy day, did some batch cooking for work lunches while listening to the Archers... I must admit that I haven't started sorting my sewing room yet though2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
