Mar - some GPs are anti-private. Not sure why, as every appointment you pay for yourself (or through insurance) is one they don't have to pay for. Both my consultants reassured me that I will ALWAYS have my NHS entitlement, and one referred me back to his NHS list (without sending me back to my GP for a new referral) as he didn't feel that the private hospital was the right place for me.

Your GP surgery may charge you for copies of all the tests. As you are paying yourself, you may not need a referral - health insurance generally requires it... I have had consultants call my surgery and request a referral before :)

Hopefully your private consultant can get you into the right place in the NHS system.

I have a vile cold, probably caught in Texas or on the plane home. If I'm not feeling better tomorrow morning I'm going to deal with my urgent stuff and then call in sick for the rest of the week - I have a chest infection (green slime) and everything aches, and I really don't want to end up with pneumonia again - particularly as it seems to be going round this thread!

That sounds horrible greenbee :( Wishing you well soon.

mar I hope your appointment gets sorted out pronto :)

Arrived at DD2's house this afternoon to be there in time for DGS coming home, only to find DD2 had made a mistake on the rota and we weren't needed today after all. Irritatingly we had also forgotten to bring the small suitcase for DGS to borrow for a school trip on Wednesday, but DSIL says he'll come and collect it later. They are going to look at a potential secondary school for DGS this evening so I expect they'll collect the case on the way back.

This morning we went to the surgery, then to the tip, then to the local shops, then to the pharmacy.
When we got home, OH said "There, now you can't say I never give you a day out!"
I agreed that he certainly knows how to show a girl a good time :D

I love the idea of germs being spread around this thread. Just spread the love!!
Spend less now, work less later.
  • I have had one pneumonia vaccination and am going to get the other one when I get my flu shot this week. Hopefully that will cover most of the pneumonia viruses out there and on this thread. I'm very suggestable. :D;)

I'm so glad that you are going to a doctor with a special interest in Addison's Mar. Relieved actually. My husband recently saw a specialist for his elbow and the care given was a thousand times more informed and advanced than he had previously received. It was a relief to be in the hands of someone who knew what he was dealing with. (His hand is withering caused by an impinged nerve)
He had been told by a general orthopedist that surgery wouldn't help. This specialist doctor said she does these surgeries weekly, that he would see improvement and it absolutely wouldn't get worse.
I'm hoping you have excellent care from your specialist because it can make a real difference in going forward. Not only should the management of the disease be up to date, but you could also feel a sort of comfort that comes from having an expert care for you. I really wanted to suggest that you look further and I am so very very glad that you have done so.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Def feeling autumnal here now, was a high of 12C here. Time to change over to soup and porridge and stews. I've started taking a walk round the village (5 mins lol) twice a day, just to try and get the BP down and keep the weight steady. So along with this I'm going to look again at my diet. The RV is on low carb high fat, which works well for him - but I think maybe I need to cut fat. My god, if I ever win the lottery the first thing I'll get is a chef!!
  • I'll get a cleaner Mar. We'll have the cleaner before I get a bigger flat. She can clean up after I cook and peel all the vegetables.

Get well soon greembee I think you're wise to take the time off and not spread it. You probably did pick it up on the plane. They recirculate the air.

It's a good thing we don't spread germs around the threads I hate to imagine how many some of us would get.

    Hugs and more hugs Milla[/B.

I work remotely nursemaggie, so I wouldn't be spreading the germs much, but I don't think my clients (or colleagues) want to hear me coughing and sneezing. And nearly all of me hurts.

I've been eating chicken broth with chillies and broccoli. I should probably eat more, but it all involves cooking, so it's not happening...

Might go and have a bath and take some sleep-inducing drugs as the electrician is back tomorrow to change the kitchen light which is on it's last legs.
  • Evening all,

Greenbee That sounds miserable :( I eat something similar when that ill--if you have ginger and/or garlic (powdered works fine) they're nice with the chili. I also make a sort of hot herbal by putting a slice of lemon and a cinnamon stick in a pan of water, bring to a boil and add some honey then drink. It won't cure you, but it might get you through the electrician's visit.

Are we spending money we don't have? I'd buy a house with a garden, a multi fuel stove and room for a library (sort of like Hyacinth Bucket's rich sister except I don't need a sauna or a pony). If I had big takings I might even splash out on TWO stoves or an open fire in the library. As for staff I'd be fine with just a general housekeeper to keep on top of the hard work chores like floor and toilet cleaning, sweeping the ash and dusting and ironing. I wouldn't need a cook, and I don't mind veg peeling, but I might hire a chauffeur. I can't be bothered learning to drive again and said house is in a remote hamlet on windy lanes...bordered by hedgerows. I think I'm getting carried away, I'd better go to bed.:rotfl:

Mardatha, we're all here agreeing with you seeing a private consultant. If necessary Monnagran can break out the elephant again to give you a ride there. I got very used to just accepting what happened to me in Engkand on the NHS, didn't question or realise there were alternatives. Australia has given me a bit of education that way. It's not like the NHS is free, and you should take what you're given and be grateful, you've all paid for it and are entitled to access what you need. Seeing someone privately to enhance that is entirely your choice, they just need to get on board.

Greenbee, sorry you're lurgyed. Hope the yick passes soon.

Ivyleaf if that's his idea of a day out you should have left him at the tip :rotfl: we had an equally lovely Saturday.... a tile shop, 2 DIY stores and the supermarket.

As for spending money we don't have, I'm technically doing that already with the renovations (mortgage redraw). Next on the list is a gate and a fence for the side, we just need to accept the quote and pay the deposit this evening. Today I need to get quotes to remove the tiles in the main living area, then another quote to put some down. Fun. How bout that dust eh? :p
