MrsLurcherwalker wrote: »Definitely practical is He Who Knows, and my best pal so I mustn't complain must I? He's a good'un and I'm very, very lucky he lets me be ME and doesn't raise an eyebrow when I want to play at living like grandma, in fact he quite enjoys joining in, so he's OK he is!!!!!(I actually really enjoy brushing down the ashes from the woodstove every morning and putting them in the compost bin, even like laying up the next fire too, does that make me sad or lucky?)
You are so very lucky Lyn to have a man that helps you , you only miss them when they have gone , speaking from experience.......God dam it I have to think of everything , do the bins, clean the fire out, get the wood and coal in , do all the gardening work, DIY , the decorating , etc etc , god I miss my husband .........
Far too much poxy wind here today , poor ole hens have had some fresh air up their ar*es too.....
Went to see hubby today , he is doing very well....
Stopped on way back at Tescos , just got me fruit and veg , I noticed that they have put alot of their veg down in price , then stopped at " the mill" to stock up on hens grub , so filled their food bins up .......Still trying to catch rats , they ignore the traps and wont eat the poison , too dam wise me thinks, so tonight ive not left the grub out so hopefully they may eat the poison if theres nothing else to eat .....
Lovely and light outside still , hope your all okay ...SheilaMy motto is " one life live it ".....:)0 -
I know I am SHEILA, he's a really sound bloke and I love him to bits. We laugh at ourselves, laugh at each other and laugh together and it really doesn't get any better than that, it's real equality and real life!!!0

Well, I've got a plan for 11 days of food and I'm only £6.03 over my target budget of £1/person/day. I've marked a few things I'll check in the kitchen--hopefully we've got an extra lurking so I can cut it down a bit but I don't want to deplete everything totally by relying too heavily on stocks. The real challenge now will be to make sure we don't go out for the proverbial milk and end up over-spending...and that I get all the meals in the right order so nothing spoils before it is eaten.0

Mrs LW, enjoy DDs visit - when you see her! Sounds like Zebra is growing up fast.
Possession, so sorry to hear of your loss, I'm sure just knowing you are there will be more than enough.
Just 2 more days until the Easter holidays, everyone at school has had enough for now, it has been such a long term with just 2 days as a half term since Christmas. Once we go back on 20 April we have May Day holiday, long weekend for Whitsun and then a month till we finish (end of June for us) so the time will pass pretty quickly.
Trying to complete a job application but cannot for the life of me word the supporting statement trying to 'sell' myself. This is always where I fall down, don't want to sound big-headed but equally need to let them know that I have a lot to offer. I have enlisted DS2 to help as he has a slightly arrogant streak that helps in this kind of field. If only I had his confidence - how come I have brought them up to be quietly confident when I am not like that myself. If I do happen to get as far as an interview I become a snivelling wreck!
The weather here has been absolutely awful, snow, sleet, hailstones, 2 minutes of sunshine and a bitterly cold wind has made for a pretty miserable day really. Still, it can only get better (I hope).
Hope you are all safe, warm and dry.0 -
OH has made it back safe and sound! He is just having a well-deserved shower. He has brought me back some preserves with interesting combinations--apple, pear and whiskey, Strawberry, apple and rose and a raspberry coulis. I suppose he does know me pretty well he said "I thought you could try them and then re-use the jars for making your own since they're nice jars." I've tried a bit on the sourdough and the first is lovely. He declared the sourdough 'amazing' and as he has just gotten back from France I'll take it!0

Those preserves sound lovely FPK! Glad DH is back safe and sound.
Chickens mentioned veg being down in price; I was in Asda the other day and bought a cauli for 39p. It's not long since it was £1! and on Monday I bought broccoli in Morrison's for 49p.
The broccoli is Spanish, but the cauli British.
Good luck with the job application Camelot! The schools here broke up last Friday and go back on the 13th.
Thank goodness the wind's dropped. It's chilly but sunny here atm.
My brother lives in southern Germany atm and it's been very windy there too. Apparently the roof of Munich Central Station is collapsing because of the wind, and a wall in his village has blown down all over the road.0
