Just caught up with you all. A lot has been going on here. Prayers for those who need them and lots and lots of warm thoughts to you all.

Fuddle here in the States many doctors are encouraging probiotics (pill or capsule) for at least a month after heavy antibiotic usage. It's to do with repopulating your body systems with good bacteria which can take up to a year.

Probiotics are supposed to help with mineral absorption. Four antibiotics!!
It's also usually recommended to eat yogurt (with live bacteria) daily.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

  • When we were on holiday on the Coventry canal I had curry in a pub and was offered chips with my curry and rice, I refused but noticed lots of people were eating it. It's not something I've ever been offered down south.

Mmmm, chips and curry sauce! Only had Moussaka once, hadn't realised it was lamb and I really dislike lamb!

I was wondering whether it was a Southern thing to regard various things (eg curry) as something NOT to serve chips with and then thought "How would I know? - since I am a Southerner. It's probably just a Southern thing...".

    Think that's established then:
    - chips aren't served with everything
    - chips are fried in oil

    provided you're a Southerner.

Northern England it seems to be:
    - chips could be served with anything (as well as the filler food that's there anyway - like pizza base or rice)
    - chips might be cooked in lard.

Having moved to Wales - I've discovered I can no longer buy chips from a chippie:( (as it seems to be the norm to do them in lard here). I shall keep an eye on it and ask again in 5 years time and, if need be, in 10 years time and see if things are still the same. Havent worked out whether Wales is "chips with everything" or "chips only in chippie type meals" yet.......

Money It may just be in your area. Do not lump all of Wales in one, North Wales is another country and speaks a different language. When I lived there 30 years ago chips were not fried in lard but oil.

I just think it is certain eateries who just think everything should be served with potato and vegetables as if any foreign meal is only the protein part of the meal. Nothing to do with North, South, East or West. I used to go to a cafe in Gloucester where they served chips and veg with, cauliflower cheese, vegetable stew, lasagne, pizza, macaroni cheese, and if you think about it what about tinned spaghetti on toast that's even two lots of wheat.

MITSTM also don't generalise that in "The North" all chips are fried in lard - they are probably cooked in beef dripping (which is different thing and very tasty) or vegetable oil (which is often recycled). We aren't as different & strange up here as you assume.

Well wedding cakes stage 2 is complete - the fruit tiers (made in May & regularly fed) are now marzipanned, ready for their icing next week. The sponge tier will be baked on Thursday morning & iced on Friday morning ready for transporting 75 miles by car

I personally dont like the smell or taste of oil, beef dripping is awesome Floss. I love lamb and we only eat lamb mince, not beef - so I need to try this moussaka stuff.. whoooo big adventure for Mard lol
I am feeling very nastily pleased with my wee self this morning. I'm a very calm laid back person and I seriously dislike people who make a fuss - but I have limits.. Local hospital is well known to be awful. Infection control is hellish and they are always in trouble for lack of it. All year round they close wards for Norovirus. My soon-to-be DIL died in there a few years back, after a 4 day inpatient stay - of appendicitis which they failed to spot!!
So this is the place I'm being refered to for the Addisons as they wont send me to Edinburgh. Sods. Anyway I called yesterday to ask how long would it be until I got an appt - because I needed to make sure I had enough meds. Got a very dittery woman who couldn't find my details, then found me then said I had vanished in the system. So she would add me again, and it would be around the first week in Oct.
That would make it a total of 8 weeks since I was told over the phone what I had. I've been put on the lowest level of steroids until I get seen - but its not enough and I feel ready to die lol Sooo I lost it. I said if you think I am going to live feeling like this for another 5 weeks then you can think again. I'm upping the dose to help my body cope - and hung up.
Phone call just now from a lady who was sweetness and light itself lol - got an appt in 3 weeks time :D

FPk that Italian thing looks nice! The moussaka looks good, like shepherds pie. I'm hungry now. Re augergines I suppose the only way to find out is to live dangerously here as well and try one! Likewise with avocadoes. I would need to check if they were any good for the RV's LC diet first, then make him eat them first and see what happens :D

I am low carbing and find this link useful:
