  • Pushy doesn't know he's a cat! He's 7/8ths Maine Coon and 1/8th Bengal and really is more doglike than catlike, he retrieves things for DD to throw and has a habit of actually 'taking' her to anything he finds that is not 'normal' in the house. He'll yell at her and walk to the door, go back and yell again until she gets up and then take her to where is the problem, he's quite a clever boy. He's also fascinated by outdoor cats he sees from the window and makes Prrrrt and buzzing noises whenever he sees one, it's a Maine Coon thing I believe!

    Morning fencers.

Gosh, reading your stories on here about GPs I think I've been really lucky over the years. Also, with family in the profession I think it helps tbh.

Lyn, I also liked the wallpaper. Am thinking it would look good in the gym on one wall and would make me think I'm cycling/running through a woodland.

Love the cat too. I am a dog person. I did have a cat years ago but not for long as found I am allergic to them.

Right, better get moving, must be a least an hour behind.

  • Our GP surgery is also a teaching practice, and Himself (who doesn't actually go to see the doctor anyway unless under threat) is always suspicious of seeing a young doctor.

Our DD who is a nurse says they are the best ones to see because they have just finished hospital training and are far more aware of the latest medical research and treatments.

About 6 weeks after Himself had his heart attack, about 7 years ago, he wasn't very well at all so we went to see the doctor. This was a partner in the practice and I suppose about mid 50s. Himself lay on the bed, Dr. took one look at his shoes and said OOhhh Clark's shoes. I said will you please have a look at his ankles because they were very swollen. Anyway he diagnosed a chest infection:eek:

About 4 days later, one evening he was not well at all, so went to A&E, and after various blood tests and such like was diagnosed with heart failure and fluid in the lungs.

Is it any wonder we worry when a Dr is more interested in his patient's shoes than his condition

:) Pushkin is adorable, I wanna snuggle him as well. Love how he's sitting right in front of the lit stove.

The second of the family cats, The Queen of Sheba's littermate, is known online as Wild Thing. She is very like Pushkin, and seems to be some kind of mongrel maine coon (I'd love to know their lineages, I saw all 5 of their kittens and none of them looked anything like either of the mums).

Wild Thing is so-nicknamed because she spends about 7 months of the year exclusively outside unless she wants feeding. If you go out to pet her, she'd very affectionate, but she doesn't come indoors unless its bitterly cold, and positively enjoys getting wet. She has an amazing coat with a downy underlayer and long top layer and never seems to get wet through and her enormous plumy tail brings in a leaf or pine needle every time she comes in.

In winter, she'll hang out indoors, and sit at your feet or beside you on the sofa, but she doesn't do laps. It's not for want of trust or affection, we've come to the conclusion that her pelt is so thick, she overheats.

I can empathise with all the bad doctor stories. And with GQ when she says you get very picky what you spend your energy on. I don't have the energy to waste on drama and now I just step back.
Shegar, I forgot all about the Kelp and still have some - will start back on it and see how that goes, thanks :)
The RV is having terrible problems with a heart that is lumping and bumping and slamming and hesitating - and they just keep giving him ECGs and saying it's fine, it must just be you. He's already had 3 heart attacks and the stress is making him even rattier than normal and it's now getting to me.
On a cheery note (yes there always is one!) I am giving up my low sugar-for-health-kick and going to hit the sweetie aisle in Aldi today cos I have had ENOUGH ! :D
  • MAR, we all need sweeties from time to time, good for you, life is too short without the odd treat.

I know how the stress affects the partner Mar, because I always seem to be on the alert, he has the most awful cough at the moment which usually goes with his heart failure, and I am forever watchful without beng seen to be because he hates that.

Actually I'm going to put a different spin on what I posted earlier. Having medics in the family can sometimes be detrimental. I still have a bumpy bone in my hand after an accident because the family member "had seen worse". Well you would in a op theatre wouldn't you?!!!!

Although I did the same to my own DS, never have been forgiven.

  • Well done JENNY and thank you so much, DD says it's really nice to hang even on victorian 'wobbly' walls.
