...Thanks for your thoughts on my volunteering, I'll take time to think about it and speak to the lovely lady who deals with the volunteers and see what she says. She's not there much at the moment as it is school holidays and takes time off to be with her children.

I think there is your answer...the new kitchen team members perhaps haven't all been made aware of their volunteer assistants. Take a step back, see if anyone realises you aren't there and speak with the coordinator on her return.

We do get the smell of dead mouse very occasionally - our house has been extended on the side so the original outside wall is now in the centre of the house and it has no cavity insulation. The original part is early 30's with suspended floors so the little B*****re get in and then get stuck & die so you can't get at them. The smell is like a gas leak! I once had DH up in the loft searching under the insulation for a dead mouse & it actually turned out to be a gas leak!
Weather report for tomorrow is good here so hoping for a good turnout for the charity bike run.

Thank you all for you comments and your 'follows' on the blog - it's going to give me something to focus on. I've added my homepage to my info on here.

DS2 had a look and roared with laughter - who on earth would be interested in you making food Mum...... Thanks for your support sweetie!!!!!! When do you leave home LOL

Mardatha - so sorry to hear about your DIL - what a horrible thing to have to deal with. And your not a bad mother, when my eldest left I enjoyed the peace - he,s like a Labrador pup, all bounce :)

Nursemaggie and Hester - I really need to look at my food shopping, I still over shop and over cook - DH has a very physical job, but the size of some of my meals even beat him - he calls me a 'feeder' :)

I had a moan at DS2 yesterday, he has an annoying habit of dumping his dishes etc in the sink, rather that put them in the dishwasher - he said who are you going to moan at when I've gone? I've told him I'll FaceTime him daily, just to nag..

Milasavesmoney - your post pretty much sums up what I think/hope will happen when they are all gone. Youngest will still be back for holidays whilst at uni, so I have that to look forward to

I have a day to myself today as DH is working, and DS has gone to Bristol with a mate - I intend to have a quick tidy through, then site and watch some tv whilst doing my nails, then do some cooking, I can decide between HM Bread and soup or a jacket spud for dinner - something light anyway

To make the dead mouse feel not quite so smelly, I'll tell you about an old neighbor of mine at the flats. He complained for ages thatbthe flat he was renting smelled. The landlord didn't take him too seriously to begin with, but the smell grew until it was even obvious to him. Cupboards were searched, the side was taken off the bath, but all to no avail.

The pest control crew came to do the annual termite inspection and went into the crawlspace beneath the flat. They found a large dead possum, the source of the odor. When I say large, about Labrador sized. And according to the pest control guy, who was a shade green, pound for pound they smell the same as dead mouse

Islandmaid I'm looking forward to following your blog :T

silvasava hope the bike ride goes well :)

Camelot I was so cross to think of you being ignored when you were giving up your time. I like Floss's advice.

I will move the stuff out of the understairs cupboard - yes, definitely "dead mouse" then, it is indeed very like a bad gas leak! We'll get some face masks first, I think, so I don't have to smell it quite so full-on when dealing with it. Might have to wait until Monday, we'll see. Rather a shame I had to hand in my service-issue respirator!

And when I eventually get a new kitchen, I'll get one without kickboards!

ETA Oh Softstuff, just read your post about the possum  I didn't realise they grew as big as that! The poor pest control man! At least I now know things could be worse, and at least it's only mice!
