So sorry that Lyn and Kittie feel that they have to leave the thread, we have lost much wisdom with their going. No idea what happened and don't need to know, I would just like them both back!

Now you tell me Zippy too little too late the money has been spent.
Hello Helebore welcome to the thread and a great idea for those not so easily tempted to spend their money
Ginnyknit sorry things have not been going your way hope you turn a corner very soon xx0 -
Morning all,
Thanks for the blackberry and apple suggestions, and the recipe! It sound as if that must be the way to go if it is so popular. I did make a plain version, just blackberry jelly on its own a couple of years ago which we ate but wasn't particularly special and I did strain that, Nursemaggie, but I didn't buy any kit. I think I pushed it through a fine mesh sieve, but I'll bear the tights in mind Zippy and Shanks! I think I may cut out the lemon curd from my list, it depends on how many I get around to.
Floss, an herb jelly is an idea. We have an absolutely enormous rosemary bush and I will have plenty of mint--I think it is peppermint. We still don't eat much meat and only have roast chicken a few times of year and never other joints. It just isn't particularly practical for the two of us, but they would be great for dressing up sandwiches!
Ginny it is nice to see you, I had wondered how you were. I'm sorry to hear about the DWP irritations and that it has affected your hubs. Great news that your DS was able to find another job so quickly.
Well, OH is doing the Aldi run on his own today as we have a fairly full weekend and were out both days. We went to a couple of free exhibitions in Manchester at the Whitworth and the Manchester Museum and then to the Stockport vintage fair yesterday where I found a nice lined wool skirt for £5. It has been taken in by one of its previous owners and needs to be let back out by me. Fortunately they left the seam allowances. I should get around to it in time to wear it for Christmas! :rotfl: I need to order some more bobbins for my machine. I only have four, which means little jobs like this just linger until I can get a bobbin free.
We could do with a bit of clean laundry here Softstuff, but I don't think the forecast agrees. Fortunately we have drier days predicted for the rest of the week so I may just wait and start tomorrow.
I think it will be bacon and potato cakes and a big salad for tea. The rest of the bacon is planned for a quiche later this week, so it will help to have it already fried off and I can be a bit naughty and fry the potato cakes int he bacon grease. The mash is in the freezer, although I'm not sure if there is quite enough, I may have to do a bit more. We're also due a fresh cake. OH has said he wants to learn...he has said this many times, so we shall see. It will just be my very plain base recipe for a cake made with oil. It is very quick to assemble and I add in whatever fruit or flavoring suits us.0 -

p.s (and then I really must get started on real work!) Has anyone seen Nuatha around? I know he was partially caught up in the unpleasantness and that his business will be facing some tough times ahead so he said he may step away, but I do hope he is still poking his head in here and there. He always gives such quiet, well thought out advice, and as the starter of this continuation thread I do hope he'll poke his head in from time to time.0

Tuna - it's never too early for a cream tea - after all it must be 3pm somewhere
Fairyprincess - when you buy some new bobbins get at least twice as many as you think you need! I now keep at least 4/5 threaded with the basic colours so I can do the little jobs quickly.
Floss - I'm off to investigate herb jellies - I've got mint, rosemary and apple mint & never thought of jellies - thank you.
Well we've a whole new week ahead of us peeps so Titus out, onwards and upwards all xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I also use tights/stockings/pop socks for making jellies and bought in bulk once when they were going cheap, they come in for the pips and pith when making marmalade too, I just bin them afterward because I have enough for years
My very favourite is crab apple jelly but for the last few years have not been able to find any crab apples, not even on the market and unfortunately being in a flat I cannot plant a tree.
I love making jams, jellies and chutney, very satisfying."Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". - Benjamin Franklin0 -
Yes FPk, nuatha will be much missed and I do hope he'll find time to come back sometimes as well
A wise and good man.
ginnyknit How nice to see you dropping in! So sorry to hear life has been difficult, and I do hope it's turned a corner now. I actually gave up my ESA claim rather than go through the stress of being repeatedly being turned down and having to appeal. It means my state pension will be lower, but it was that or be made iller! I'm glad your DS has found a new job xx
Welcome to the thread Helebore
tunathe cat Have they been able to give you any idea when you'll be able to move back into your house? It must be very stressful having to live in a hotel (especially when you get turfed out of it, but at least it sounds as if you had a happy few days in Norfolk)

I've been in touch with nuatha, and it seems that the tough times he expected have materialised. I suspect it will be some time before he has the time, or feels able, to come back.0
