I love being a Nan too, but it can be very tiring!
My friend's grandchildren call her "Nanny Fixit" because she can seemingly always find a way to mend whatever damaged article they bring her.
Your children sound great tunaSorry to hear of your DH's health problems.

My goodness tuna, it never rains but it pours in your your life. Is there anything else that can go wrong? You sound positive and upbeat but I'm willing to bet that is not how you feel. You can always come here and have a moan when things get overwhelming, the folk here are brilliant at being supportive.
I seem to be sunk in inertia at the moment, however there's not much chance of indulging in that when pickle is around. Yesterday we made chocolate cakes, washed up the cooking bowls which morphed into washing her scooter, mopped the kitchen floor, had a painting session, washed table, chairs, brushes, mopped the kitchen floor again, ran her a bath and played splashing games, mopped the bathroom floor, (variety being the spice of life) and had boiled egg and soldiers for lunch. At which time Mummy came back from work early.
This devoted grandmother whimpered pathetically and retreated to her own room with the door firmly shut.
Yes Ivy, I love being a Nan too. Usually. In small doses.

You know I was previously under the impression that when you got to the grandkids stage it was all funand plain sailing, but it seems I wouldn't have been suited to that anymore than I'd have been suited to parenthood :rotfl: I wish you all continued energy and endurance. And a stiff drink for Tuna I think.
Went to ikea to replace somd faulty parts today, very lovely people there but it still sucked to have to drive there again so soon.
Off tomorrow to a garden expo. Plant buying :jSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I'm not that kind of granny. Still traumatised from bringing the wee sods up!0

While cats have been mentioned - a friend of mine has recently re-homed a cat with her.
Cat and her are perfectly happy together. Cat has obviously fully realised it's her new home now - and is clearly defending it against all kitty comers.:rotfl: Friend and I take this as cat is "feeling at home" enough to see off kittie intruders and has got it worked out that its "her" garden. But kittie hasn't been coming off well from seeing off the purry intruders and is clearly upset and injured from doing so.
I've never had cats - any thoughts on protecting kittie from the "furry would-be intruders" before she comes in having had another bout of trying to keep them out? Friend and I are wondering just who the particular intruders are - but friend hasnt yet spotted any local cats looking like they've "been in the wars" - so hasnt identified the culprit/s yet. Friend and hubbie know its not kittie that is being the aggressor moggie - as they've heard the "cat swearing matches" going on right outside in their garden.0 -

I keep coming across tempting waffle recipes in some of my newer cookbooks - but I dont want to go out and buy yet another bit of kitchen equipment (as I already have ...rather a lot....of kitchen stuff).
Not really. The waffle maker helps make a crisp outside and a light airy inside sort of like fried donuts. Waffle batter has slightly more sugar and oil for carmelization and crispness.
Pancakes are made in all sizes but usually about the size of a salad plate and served in a stack of two or three.
Both waffles and pancakes are traditionally served with butter and maple syrup. Other toppings include lightly cooked sweetened blueberries, strawberries, loganberries etc in their syrup, usually topped with sweetened whip cream. Bacon, ham or sausage as a side.
In the South many soul food restaurants serve fried chicken and waffles with maple syrup. It also is a dish cooked by the Pennsylvania Dutch.
When I was little we ate pancakes with HM jelly. Yum! Brings back memories.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Softstuff Enjoy the garden expo
mar Thanks for making me laughBest wishes to the RV.
mila It seems really strange to us here, the idea of having sweet and savoury foods side by side.0 -
You would be amazed at what we talk about.
During a fairly hair-raising discussion about what goes on at music festivals I happened to drop into the conversation that when I was a student we spent the night of the summer solstice at Stonehenge.
In the appalled silence that followed someone was heard to say, "Well, it would have been different in those days."
I hid my smirk. They truly think that they have invented sex. They also think that in the fifties we all sat around embroidering our anti macassars, possibly wearing our crinolines..
x
Great story! Ya gotta love the young...they are the first ones who ever did, thought, felt anything!
What my kids don't know!!
Ivy, we douse it all in maple syrup and it's good.Overprepare, then go with the flow.
