Kittie we just had chicken pie (from leftovers & fridge oddments) in a round white enamel pie dish! The chicken had been in the fridge in a rectangular deep pie dish too2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Now what I'm wondering is if there is a way to make waffles without having a waffle iron?
I keep coming across tempting waffle recipes in some of my newer cookbooks - but I dont want to go out and buy yet another bit of kitchen equipment (as I already have ...rather a lot....of kitchen stuff).0 -
MITSTM the Hairy Bikers suggest making american-style pancakes as an alternative if one doesn't have a waffle iron.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

They're American. Do you seriously think they'd be small?
The last diner I went to (about 3 weeks ago) made them about the size of a side plate.
Edit - just looked at my side plate. Make that a salad plate0 -
I use these white blue-rimmed pie dishes all the time kittie.0

Sounds like an ideal afternoon Ivyleaf, a good book and the tour, I'd want both though!
Nursemaggie, don't worry about me, I'm pretty sturdy right now and still have physio appointments to check all is going well. I feel great most of the time, just the stiff sore bit, but nothing really painful. A good nights sleep fixes most of it. Is your DSs contract just delayed or is the 10 hours now permanent? It tends to be a quietish time for a lot of retail (not sure how it is in DIY), but it does pick up soon, maybe they're waiting for that
I've been looking at enamel cookware recently Kittie with an eye to purchasing some. I purchased Wiltshire enamel baking sheets a few years ago though and to begin with they were the best thing since sliced bread. After a few uses though everything stuck. Wondering if the old style falcon tins are better long term.
Mtstm, I fancy getting another waffle maker. Had one years ago and loved it very much, but when we were in the tiny kitchen at the flat it was a no go. You can pick them up very cheaply second hand. The advantage of them is all the crispy bits on the waffles, which is I think what makes them so good. I also found you could make a batch, freeze them, then pop them in a toaster and they were as good as fresh.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
softstuff he is on his permanent contract now but it is only 10 hours so that all they have to do is give him a day off and work him to death for the rest of the week. I think it is just a ruse like zero hour contracts. He is one of only two trolley pushers. The other one works more hours on tills and the rest are tills only. DS only does tills for breaks because if they take him off trolleys they need to replace him. 15 minutes is nothing.
B & Q is half trade which does not vary round the year as much. Most decorating is done between March and December. Gardening is similar. DIY is all year round. Lots of stuff they sell is what you add after, like curtains, throws, lighting, cushions and other decorative stuff. Weather affects them much more, nothing deader than a wet bank holiday.0 -
Rice pudding, Kittie, I remember my god mother making rice pudding in those blue rimmed dishes.
MITSTM I must be a drop scone, short and thick, that's me.
The fridge is heaving, ditto the freezer, all ready for the descending hordes otherwise known as the DGC.
If I don't post over the weekend it'll be because I'm drowning not waving!Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Hester,
Am now waiting with interest to see what verdict Monna might have on what to call you:).
The "short" part of that I would have to agree with - and it's got its problems being on the shorter side. Never mind - when trying to reach for goods on the higher supermarket shelves I've always got my eye out for tall young men to get them for me if need be:). They always oblige and smile pleasantly down at me..
On that note - I'll try not to think what uses you might find for tall young men...:)0
