You know, it's better to be bad but less often and have the real thing!
  • Yes in a word - but as its down to what the supermarket has (rather than my own decision iyswim) then "Oh well - I guess they'll stock it in a years time/2 years time/5 years time and meanwhile c'est la vie"....

You learn ways round dealing with "what the local supermarket isnt stocking - yet" basically - in order to come up with "feel good" alternatives.

Just had a spinach omelette from one of those Hemsley and Hemsley cookbooks that have recently come out - organic spinach/free-range eggs/basil/Parmesan cheese (exception to rule - as local supermarket doesnt have organic Parmesan yet). With it - salad from garden and organic vine tomatoes with toasted seeds (with "real" soya sauce). Followed by strawberries from garden with organic yogurt. So - I get in "nice" foods whilst waiting for local supermarket to update their product range.:)

When I get more "on top of things" - I'll have to investigate things like making my own clotted cream (one of the local supermarkets has organic milk - ie to make it from).

Half fat or low fat stuff is full of sugar and sweeteners... worse in the long run.

I also look up foods mentioned on this board>>>latest was banoffee pie. This sounds wonderful. I will attempt it soon. Anyone know the background of this pie?[/QUO

The pie was invented in the hungry monk restaurant in Jevington East Sussex.
  • Just had a mega garden session and watered the pots, the plots, the poly tunnel and planted up Zebras wigwam/den. We planted willow strips a couple of years ago and only a few took so we've 8ft bamboos in a tepee shape and we've planted climbers that smell nice and tied in the willow too. Also re potted my lemon plant with lots of drainage under him as Monty Don says citrus like dry feet. Just topping up the water butts and then we're done. Tired but it feels good!!!
