All the talk about gardens soft breezes and sunshine is making me cry. We've been stuck on 0-2C for over a week here. Warm in the sun when it appeared, and dry, but too intense cold to even begin to think of gardening.
The RV is very tired, I hauled him to the doc for his ferritin to be tested and its very low. The doc said "its fine"... in that surgery a dead body would test as "fine". I checked with the pernicious anaemia society forums and they say ferritin needs to be 80 for PA sufferers... his came back at 30 and is apparently "fine". Gahhh0 -

Unfortunately the acceptable levels vary from country to country, but the GP should be taking the PA into account. Did they have any other suggestions? To be fair to my GP she sets the bar higher than the NHS standard, but has recently decided that I get symptoms above the level she normally considers acceptable.

That surgery is a waste of space greenbee they told me last time I spoke up that I "shouldn't be reading stuff on the internet"... but there's no other practice near us.0

Mar Does the RV have regular hospital check ups ? I know doctors differ in their views and are working under guidelines that are sometimes outdated or have no flexibility to account for individual needs . It may be worth expressing your concerns to his consultant or registrar .
I hope you get better weather soon . Has lambing started yet ?
Take care

Softstuff I have some big holly trees in my garden and when trimming I save the cuttings and like Nuatha place them where needed . I have always gardened organically and tried all sorts over the years but this works perfectly . I don't know if holly is common in oz but any twiggy and uncomfortable to lie on branches should work .
Chair is lovely . I really enjoy upcycling existing furniture .
Watch those toes or you'll need upcycling yourself

Lovely job on the chair softstuff, I have one of those in my bedroom and it has been about 20 different colours depending on who wants it in their room and the decor! It is presently white and I made a grey and white cushion pad for it.
fuddle - as others have said, make sure you make the HT listen to your points. She will have her agenda and will probably be bound by some higher bod to carry out the sats. Good luck!
Gosh, I'm glad it's Friday. Going to have a while on here then go and give my bedroom a good clean. I know how to live it up on a Friday night, eh?!0 -
I was going to be cheeky and ask of we could see the chair softstuff so you've saved me the embarrassment. Lovely. Well done misses
Mar I'm sorry to read RV isn't too good. You shouldn't read stuff off the internet eh? It's easy to poo poo something that is from the net when you're faced with being put in your place. Next time I reckon you should say you have been in contact of the society and not mention the net.
I have been a brave lassie and called DD's prospective secondary school. I have been talking to the deputy head who has explained that any SATs information is used tonset children starting but they do their own initial tests too and move children up/down where necessary. o ten called Education Welfare and talked through homeschooling and how it would effect setting. She explaimed that children do miss SATs for various reasons and it's not a problem. She confirmed my questioning re: a system where all my DDs previous assesment info is stored regardless of where she was schooled so it would be easy to set in the ball park of where she could be. She also saidnthar it is as simple as calling the Primary School and getting their feedback about DDs capabilities.
So I have my information. I don't want to homeschool DD but I want the school to realise that some parents won't accept that the curriculum be replaced by maths and english work all week long from now until May. DD has been doing past test papers since Christmas break and now she has nothing but math and english SATs 'training'
The head teacher wants to explain their SATs teaching methods and I want to know what has happened to the diverse curriculum that interested my daughter. I will feel no shame at dropping the name of my head (whom I know she will know and has to respect for who he was and what he achieved) My words will be "I worked under **** for nearly a decade where I saw and was part of SATs teaching that was fully emersed within the curriculum. Our children knew no different, felt no pressure and still received good SATs marks. There is a different approach and because of this I have to speak up when my own daughter is involved in a system that is causing a negative attitude towards schooling. Her emotional wellbeing and eagerness to learn is what is important to me, not SATs results and because of that if I have any further worries I will not hesitate to homeschool and liase with secondary school myself"
At some point in whatever she says those words will come out. I won't be patronised.
That being said DD is feeling better. Her teacher has been in full contact with me these past few days. DD has been asked to run the tuck shop daily and has been given a copy of Anne Frank's dairy to read as DD showed an interest. DD said she had PE this afternoon and some reward time. She also said thar all teachers seemed to have lightened a bit, that there is some laughter and banter appearing in lessons again.
I would hope its because of the fuss I've been making and if not directly, so what. Maybe they've realised that if DD is unhappy they are passing their own stress onto the children. I bet those teachers hate SATs and what they have to do as much as the children.0
