Welcome mancbird to this crazy outfit. I can confidently promise that you will be entertained, tickled pink, (and probably blue, green and Orange as well,) encouraged, sympathized with, hugged, poked fun at, scandalized, (you listening Hester), supported, agreed with, argued with and loved. Oh, and given bits of financial know-how by the thrifty/meany/clever folk who inhabit these pages.
Sure you know what you have let yourself in for?

Looking forward to joining inI've posted a few times on these threads before but it's a good few years ago now!
Just reading the story about the cat and it reminded me about my pet cat I had when I was little. She used to follow me to school every morning and walked back home with my mam once she'd dropped us offMammy to 2 boys aged 5 and 20 -
Lyn / Mrs LW
It's odd but I have never felt I could suddenly call you Lyn . Over the years I have only seen a few a few posters do so and I thought you preferred your user name . As you were the one who welcomed a very wimpy newbie with no posting skills and went on to encourage me to keep going , I shall be proud to join the Lyn posters !
I am now contemplating my recent Monna and Mar posts :rotfl: Should I have been so bold ? I know I succumbed on one of the threads to fulfilling a long held ambition and did a post to Mardywotsit . Over to you Monnagran and Mardatha .:D

There but for fortune go you and I.0 -
Oh bless POLLY, if you knew me in real life you'd soon see that I'm Lyn to everyone even the nephew!!! can't be doing the formalities, every small person (and all the big ones too) start off with Mrs or Aunty and it lasts at longest till 10 minutes into the first visit, then I'm Lyn, much, much nicer I think!!!0

(Memo to self - to avoid a good spanking remember it's Lyn not Mrs LW)One life - your life - live it!0

Ivyleaf that story of your cat reminded me of the cat that adopted me & ex-h when DS1 was born. I would push DS1 in his big coach-built pram to the baby clinic & supermarket, and Sylvester would follow me. When we went into the clinic, he would curl up under the pram cover in the warm blankets, and then would sit up proud as punch next to DS1 for the ride home.
He would also follow people into the nature reserve opposite our home and sit waiting for someone he knew to follow them out again.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

MrsLW (:D Lyn), the tale of your medication drama made me shudder. Something I recall vividly from England was how insufficiently trained people seem to be able to poke into your ability to get health care. How the pharmacists can interfere with your prescription, the receptionist can decide whether you get to see a doctor or even the gp can refuse to refer you to a specialist if he can't treat you.
Choice and the ability to decide myself and have confidence that I can get the most educated response to a problem is the thing I value most in Australia (given if I was still in England the tumour in my leg would still be "in my head", and the stomach issues successfully treated here would be "a bit of IBS").
And to think some people come for the weather and beaches :rotfl:
Love the cat story Ivyleaf, it's adorable.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
You'll be getting a massive influx of UK junior doctors soon Softstuff. Shortly followed by lots of GPs (they're due to have a new contract inflicted on them soon). Apparently request for permits to practice abroad usually run at 20-odd a month (I may be wrong, I've forgotten exactly, but it's low). Last week there were over 300. And Australia, NZ and SA are happy to have UK-trained doctors (saves them training their own), while our doctors like working in Oz in particular because there is so much money spent on medicine.0

Yup greenbee Thankfully my DH is at the end of 'junior doctor' stage. He takes his final exams to become a consultant next year, and being in Scotland it doesn't apply. But they are planning on forcing in a new consultant contract too. We are looking at Canada as well as Australia as options.
It was interesting to see all those Trust heads distancing themselves from the letter that Mr C**t used to justify imposing the contracts - the day after a lot of junior doctors withdrew their applications to train with their trusts.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Don't understand how the contracts they are imposing on Junior Doctors get round the working time directive? How does a tired stressed doctor benefit the patient?Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
