We don't get ANY charity bags here Lyn. Probably too small a village to make it worthwhile. Where I was before we got them, but they didn't always bother collecting which was annoying when you did bother...
Now I have more storage space I wait until I have enough for it to be worth detouring via the hospice shop to drop off.0 -

I find it rather off putting that charities waste so much money which was presumably donated in the first place for such a small return as I rarely see people putting full bags our for collection these days.
Having just looked at the most recent handful here, only one is actually a charity as far as I can see (air ambulance), others are commercial companies that will donate part of their proceeds to a charity, between £50 and £85 per tonne of goods received. (goods being: good condition clothes, paired shoes, original CDs and DVDs, phones but not books or bric-a-brac).
One presumes that these commercial companies run at a profit (since it is a criminal offence for them to trade insolvent) and make sufficient return on their investment in bags and vans to pay for them. Given that the January 2015 price for bulk rag (not saleable clothing) was £440 - £510 per tonne delivered to a bulk processor, it seems likely that they are making a profit.
If the bags didn't imply charity collection, then I suspect the rate of returns would be far lower.0 -
Lyn we receive quite a few as well. I don't use them because we always donate to our local Hospice shop, a cause close to my heart.
I have seen bags left out and they seem not to be collected on the day stated, and that leaves it open to people who are not entitled to collect, to pick them up.

It's a fresh surprise every day to see what the tablet will let me call fuddle, its obviously in a good mood today.
Nargle: I always think of pixies being benign, funny little creatures whereas whatever it is inhabiting this cursed machine is neither (and that would be "n-eye-ther"not "nee-ther." Lets try demons, trolls or gremlins.
Mrs LW: I couldn't agree more about charities. What really makes me seethe is when they try giving you an inducement like pens or keyring or, in one case, a 20p piece sellotaped to the begging letter. I love to give to good causes but have very little resources so hate to make what is a real sacrifice to me and think that it is going towards someone's plush office or posh car, or even pens for the masses of potential donors. Hence I donate to a small charity run by a dear cousin and support very local charities where I know that every penny will go to where it is most needed.
Hester: Me too, but being so old and wrinkly I am far from alluring. Best not to think about that too deeply, it's enough to put you off your breakfast.

Light a candle for my family please and send me some good thoughts. Exactly 52 weeks ago today my husband died in the afternoon, on tuesday. My youngest brother is about to lose his wife with a nasty cancer, she has hours left if that. My emotions are pretty raw at the moment. I am the oldest, he is the youngest of seven0

Thinking about you kittie
Monna I have been called a lot worse :rotfl:
As for pj's on the scholarship run , never have because always dropped off then straight to work .....have only once worn my pj top outside , the night my father died, pulled my clothes on top because he was having a heart attack...We only lived a few doors away , ...odd thing to remember, he was fine at 7pm , playing at being a horse with my eldest ,going round and round the table on his knees, we came home kids to bed and call at 9 30 dead by 9 45 ....he was very early 50's with hardly a day off work in his life ...remember my eldest son was 6 at the time , and we took the children into church when we brought dad there the night before the funeral, could not face the kids at funeral ,so this was there time to say goodbye, we had got through the rosary ,waited till most had gone then walked towards the coffin with kids ...All was fine , on walking away ds was laughing with a silly smile on his face ...saying grandad wouldn't be happy ,have you seen the men had left the nails sticking half out the coffin , grandad would have had those hammered flat ...ds has since grown up to be a builder , every time I see him with a hammer that's what I see ....
Strange what you remember isn't it ..
Right butt into action and do something
