There but for fortune go you and I.
  • pollyanna DS is working very hard at his work experience but I fail to see how moving thousands of tons of gravel bark and sheds is experience for working in an office. I think they are just exploiting him.

He is in a lot of pain all the time for all that he is lifting. He does not seem to be doing much of anything else other than cleaning up the garden centre and pressure washing. I think it is strange administration. He has been in bed since about 9.30 every night. He is now off until Tuesday.

I don't think I will be settled here until I can have my pans where I can reach them. I really need to be up and getting DS to put away last nights pans and get our todays pans before he goes to work. I am not with it enough first thing in the morning to think as if I was in the middle of cooking. I'd also not to be sharing my bedroom with the contents of the under stairs cupboard and having to move them round to get in and out of bed or get at my clothes. I guess I will get used to it.
  • Mar - I have a cellar?

At least they let you know Softstuff, I think the job had gone before you got there.

No horror stories of new kitchens please, I've done the rest of the house, just the kitchen and utility to go and I'm dreading the kitchen. I really must have a proper look to see what I want and get on with it. I can't see where the expense is in a kitchen, all the carcasses are cheaply made, the big blue and yellow shed sell so much of the same kind of stuff as bookcases, tv units, etc which is really cheap, so why not kitchens?

Camerlot, totally agree with the cost of kitchens , ...we are very lucky as we have space to do this but we bought each unit one by one , till we had what I thought I needed , then a few doors at a time , then the sink , taps ...etc etc ...We were unsure of total dimensions till we knocked through .... The only thing we didn't get was work bench ....as that had to be bought all at the same time ...so as soon as the plaster was dry we only had to get a few things .....The biggest expense was the work tops .... but all work carried out by us , with a help from good friends ...so now big kitchen about 18 ft Sq ...nearly finished .....yes it has taken a long time ..but the way I see it is we planned on being here a while ...and didn't really notice the cost as it was paid for as we went along ...and the work tops make it look like a very expensive kitchen ....Its not lol
    And I like it :)

I'm having peace & quiet and the RV might live to see another sun up. It's heavy snow and he's out playing happily - erm sorry- clearing the neighbours paths. The cat and I are reading Miss Marple.

Camelot, kitchen carcasses and doors are a bit better made than the rest of the furniture at ikea, but I see where you're coming from. I have no kitchen horror stories, looking forward to doing ours. It'll be an ikea jobbie here and I'm not afraid of putting it together. I rather enjoy assembling flatpack :o

Now taps, taps are a b steward of a thing over here. Because in Australia taps have to be wels rated, or they can't be installed, there is a very limited selection and they can be shockingly expensive. Having decided early on that we didn't want chrome/silver coloured things in the house, we went looking for some aged brass or oil rubbed bronze taps. Nothing available easily. There are companies that make them though. ..., $1000 for a set of sink taps anybody  needless to say, still looking.

Unfortunately only premium priced vintage style that are wels rated, not actual vintage taps. I suspect we could circumvent it and get the plumber to install cheap chrome taps then switch em, but we're very much law abiding, keep off the grass type people, so...

I think the answer is to install the cheap ones, change to what you want, and keep the cheap ones for if/when you want to sell... :)
