Peach crumble was nice, but I really really wanted plum crumble, never had it and it sounds so nice. I wasn't sure if it was ok to stew the plums, thought I might end up with plum jam lolol. I was DEFINITELY NOT put on this earth to be a cook... LOL!0

You only need to simmer the plums so the flesh comes away from the stone. I don't put any sugar with them at this stage - leave it till you do the crumble.
Many years ago I made plum jam & laboriously stoned about 3lb. A lady I worked with then told me to simmer them first and after you've added the sugar the stones will rise and you can get them out with a slotted spoon!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Thanks Silvasava. I will now do that too. The things you learn on here!0

Here's an admission...I've never eaten a fresh peach or plum and at my late stage of life probably would not know how to. I am sure if I sat down and made a list of items I have not tried would be very very long:o:rotfl:"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Go on Pops try them. I am eating flat peaches right now.0

I eat my stone fruit as I would an apple. I like the really big Chilean plums as they are less fiddly to eat than small plums.
Those doughnut peaches and nectarines - the flat ones - are nice as well.
My Mum was very big on the benefits of fresh fruit and veg, being a nurse. We didn't have much money but that's one thing we did have.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Pops - maybe set yourself a little challenge to try something new? My Mum always used to say that your tastes change as you get older and its true (but I still can't stand cottage cheese) Plums and peaches and Nectarines are delicious!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Right on my probable shopping list for Monday plums and peaches. Of course I've had tinned fruit over the years;)
I'm quite happy today despite the weather being "Naff" Dark enough to put a light on by 5pm and even cold enough to consider putting an extra jumper/shirt on. Typical British Summer.
Somehow Sunday has passed by but I've no idea how, what have I done?
My planned look outs were called off over the weekend and its too wet for gardening but the weeds are disappearing.
Going finish the scones off with some strawberry jam and have a coffee, take my meds, get ready for the little bingo session tonight and get the little buffet together. Then its the start of another week I guess:)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Popperwell, I heard on the radio that there will be a live screening of a Battle of Britain concert in cinemas in September which could be really good for you if you can get to a cinema easily.0
