Hiya Petula, Do keep an eye on the thread and post, I returned :p
Thanks for the idea about the Battle of Britain Concert camelot1001, I shall look into it. Nothing officially planned until 4th/5th September a kind of folk event(if I can get a lift home and avoid taxi's)and still access a bus pass(and attend as many of the things going on over the weekend)the expense of the tickets are offset somewhat. The main concerts are 3-4 hours in length too

Other shows(not many this year were paid for last year)So you feel as though they are free.

I found out there was a screening of Carry On Screaming locally tonight and a member of the cast was doing a question and answer session. I was tempted but did not go in the end.

I have only ever seen a relayed show from a London stage in my life. The last Monty Python reunion at the O2. I got the time wrong and missed 30mins:o

There are some shows I'd like to see but they are a bit too far to travel when using buses(avoiding expensive taxi fares/staying over)60's bands and Ronnie Spector. The tickets aren't too expensive considering. I wish I knew if there were plans that they may come nearer to where I live.

Local venues try to keep prices down which can mean bargains but equally some artists stay away if the seats are too cheap.

Wow Burtha - what fantastic news for the club. You've worked damned hard to turn it round. Just shows what a bit of determination can do. :T:beer:

Could someone turn down the heat please? Feeling sapped between the weather and being 'of an age'. I should be doing laundry and 101 other things but have decided to go sit under the brolly in the garden and read.:rotfl: Well, it is important to keep one's mind sharp, yes? :D

I've put the bowl in the freezer and will make up some ice cream later which should also help too!

burtha- what sort of club if you don't mind me asking? I'll bet it's here in the thread somewhere I know, but

Welcome back Petula! I hope things have got better for you. I know what you mean about not wanting to post when things are bad ((HUGS))

burtha What great news about the club! I think you said it was the working men's club, is that right?

Pops - If it makes you feel any better about the foods you've never tried, my Nan never ate a tomato in all her long life. she just "didn't like the look of them!" and that was that!

Mmm.....doughnut peaches! I bought some of those in lidl yesterday :) Their peaches and nectarines always seem nicer than anyone's. Though I did buy a punnet of peaches at the Co-Op the other week as it was one of their "Fresh 3" for 49p, so at that price I thought it was worth trying. They needed a couple of days to ripen, then they were lovely.

So often when you buy "ripen at home" fruit it seems to go straight from being rock-hard to being rotten.

Know just what you mean ivyleaf I prefer to by peaches and nectarines in the market because of that.

Never mind getting someone to turn down the heat just send some up hear we are still waiting for summer to arrive in the north. If it is not raining which it does daily for several hours the hottest it has ever been is 17c.

Got someone fitting a new boiler today so front door open all the time I am frozen. Will be glad when they are done and we can have some heating for an hour in the evening and have some hot water at last. Been waiting for weeks. Old one was not working.
  • we're making cider again! I've just chopped two sacks and three large bags of windfall apples and the phone calls offering them from village folk have started too. My hands have furrows in not just wrinkles and I smell of apples but worth it for the years supply of free cider for He Who Knows who is sitting in the garden blitzing and pressing the apples, going to take him a while!!! I think it's nearly autumn folks!

That sounds lovely Lyn, I like cider :) Not so sure I like thinking of autumn being on the horizon though! I'm enjoying being able to hang out the washing. Our garden doesn't get any sun in the late Autumn and Winter.

I also like not having to wear loads of clothes :D

Maggie So pleased to hear your boiler's being done at last :j
  • I think autumn is showing itself early this year, due in the main to it having been so very dry here. The wild blackberries are ripe enough to pick on the lanes here and I've had pounds off my thornless bushes in the garden too. Picked a couple of pounds of autumn raspberries from the allotment this afternoon and also picked a small Ikea bag full of perfectly ripe eating apples from the tree on the allotment too, they won't keep for long but long enough for me to enjoy them!
