Hi nice to see Pic and Kidcat posting again. Sorry to hear you both have back problems hope they can be resolved quickly.
Sorry can't help with the Sauerkraut but if I thought I would help my particular ailment I think I would just close my eyes and think of England kind of thing and have a glass of something nice to wash it down with lol.
Lol Ivy I know it's not funny for you but just have mental pics of the birds in my head.
Hope everyone is keeping well xx

That's all right, they are quite funny birds anyway really, the way they strut about so self-importantly. :D Yesterday there were two of them on the garden wall and to start with I thought one of them was trying to mate with the other and getting the brush-off, but then I realised they were doing "This is MY wall!" "No, it's MY wall!" and they were trying to shove each other off the wall :rotfl: One of them was triumphant in the end.

pic You poor thing, your back must be so painful :( My DD would have great empathy as she was prescribed some meds which increased her appetite; as she's diabetic and had lost loads of weight by eating carefully she wasn't at all impressed!

There's a thing called KEFIR which is a sort of fermented milk drink, I gather, like natural yogurt but may be more sour, and it's supposed to be really good for your tummy. I saw it mentioned on another thread recently but can't remember which, but someone said you can buy it in health food shops (I don't know if H & B stock it). Some people make their own.

Hope the poorly backs recover soon, it's a rotten thing.

Had a weird day, two folk collecting things I put on freegle, one of them some slabs from the bottom of the garden so I wont have to take them to the tip, just the broken ones and then I can put some weed matting down and cover it in gravel, much more forgiving and I can put the new wooden planters on them.

The other couple took away a sofa bed that has been lounging about in the conservatory since we moved here and I desperately need the space what with DD gathering things for her new flat and all the living room furniture needing to be re-homed while the room is being plastered.

The Electrician was here so no power for most of the day, thought I would just catch up on here but of course, no power, no internet! Gosh I was a bit bored. No point in cleaning as they just make more mess.

Anyway, it is all going the right way so I'll grin and bear it.

    An update(if it works/is allowed)
I had a bit of a hiccup on Wednesday and could not shake off being on a downer and yet before/after that day I have felt fine so the reason for feeling as I did is not easy for me to understand.

I've pulled the house into order. I need no clothes...my wardrobe is full. I've more clothes than I have ever owned now. They'll last me years. If I am short of anything its ties. If I need to buy anything it will be the replacing of underwear/socks/shoes. Basics.

I was going to visit a town Andrea suggested(easy by bus)and has all the kind of shops I now use a lot and they are all next to each other in a compact area but as I also have all I need for now, I'll delay that trip tomorrow. Anyone living in the North will probably know of Peterlee. I have never ever been there. We're talking 57 years.

The garden is coming on fine...its not like this any more.

I will post soon how it has changed. I soon hope to feed the lawns to green the grass and kill moss etc...seed some lawns that have been cleared and even though some fences are broken they still stand up to the weather and if I grow shrubs in front they will be protected.

The ivy has been blitzed and there is none of it draping over the fence anymore. And I am ready to attack it whenever possible. In the coming week I hope to start painting the fence and clearing garden rubbish away. Still watching those weeds die...I may have to dig them out yet. There is a path that cannot be seen in the image too.

My washing line is working(not needing to use the dryer. Also when I use the w machine I use a lower temp cycle. Own brand detergents too. That worked well last time except for one item(grass stains on the knees of some trousers)

I may be repeating myself(sorry)Saturday I hope to attend the Sunderland Airshow, a free music concert on Sunday afternoon in Darlington and a Last Night of the Proms concert in a theatre on Monday night. So another good reason for pottering about doing small housework type tasks and resting. Then nothing really planned for two months so not really spending money.

At present I seem to be on top of everything.

I don't make a habit of posting images(don't want to annoy/mess things up)but occasionally I know you like to see what I am talking of so here are a few images put online by the organisers of the Durham Brass event and what I saw last weekend. All credit goes to them. It was a work commissioned by them and was written and performed by Ian McMillan. Last Train to Elvet. All about a circus train coming to town.

Good photos Popperwell, sounds like you have been busy in the garden, bet it's looking really good now and a bonus that you can get your washing out to dry.

I have nearly sorted the end of my garden (sounds like it is really long but it's not!), I advertised the slabs on freegle and someone took them away, just a few broken ones left that I put into the skip the builder has here (I would imagine I am paying for that anyway), put down a weed mat and bought and put in some wooden edging and got some stones. The stones are black/white so brighten up the garden. The place I bought them from put the bags into the car and I had to ask the builders to take them out. Need to get more today and then that little bit is done.

I'm beginning to get some produce from the garden but the tomato plants still only have flowers on, not one tomato yet, I think it's getting a bit late in the year now. Still, that's scottish weather for you!

I've had a go at making Sauerkraut as that's supposed to help heal the tum but I couldn't stand it..........any tips anyone??????

    Hi PIC

Best thing for me I found was not eating a thing after 6pm and at bedtime eating a natural organic plain yoghurt. The best you can find. HTH.

I feel your pain Camelot. 3 scarlet flowers on my beans and the lettuce is pathetic. I need a greenhouse! Heating on in the house last 3 nights!

The end of the garden is finished! I must say I am really pleased with it, now have to fill the large wooden planters with compost and find something to grow in them - any ideas?

Building works coming along, the messiest part is done now - stripping plaster from the hall, stairs and landing - just need them to put up the plasterboard and re-plaster. The living room has now been plastered but it will be a while until it's dry. The dust is horrific but needs must, the mop has never seen so much action!

juliettet - I would have been tempted to put the heating on - if I had radiators!
