That trick;)was mentioned even by the person taking my bloods today. I have double bagged some items and could see if I can add extra into bags already sorted as the contents settle/dies down. Its sitting on the barren ground for now so no rush. The bulky waste collection sounds good when explained that way.

To be honest they are acting as a barrier at present to help stop some items coming back. I was thinking of putting some black plastic sheeting down to do something similar.

Normally, I create little if any garden rubbish. I would struggle to use the garden waste wheelie bin scheme.

I've been stopped from my plans again due to rain. I'm so close to being finished. Except for the painting of the fences.

Images will be posted soon and...I will stop talking gardens.:rotfl:

Don't be ashamed of talking gardens, Popperwell. A garden, if you are lucky to have one, is an extension of your home, very useful if you have visitors. It can be a food store if you grow fruit or veg. It can be a substitute for expensive gym memberships to keep you fit. It can be a place of learning and studying plants, the weather, the seasons, wildlife. It can also be a playground for children and a restful oasis on a summer's day when you just sit or lie back and feel the sun and the breeze on your skin, and listen to the sounds of Nature. Best stress reliever in the world!

    Good morning fencers :)

    Much cooler here today :j

My brother lives in Bavaria and they're having a heatwave there too - Monday was their hottest since records began, apparently  I expect they will end up having massive thunderstorms.

I made chicken nuggets last night! They were really nice, but very messy what with the flour, egg and breadcrumbs.

Popperwell That was certainly a bargain you got at the charity shop and I expect it's a bit mean of me to ask if you actually needed nine shirts :) Still, when you need a new one you will be able to go shopping in your own wardrobe!

Not mean at all to ask Ivyleaf, it means that I have choice, I can wait a while before having to build up a washing load, you can go ages before anything good comes into the shop and many C shops charge £2.50 and much more for one item. I often wonder(and it has happened before)if the shop could close/relocate and that would be another avenue of decent clothes closed off.

At that price I guess if they only last a short time you don't mind throwing them out. But they will last me ages. In the past I have found some bargains on jumpers which is good for the colder times of the year.

It was an initial outlay of £8.91 but spread over the year that's something like 2p per day.

My wardrobe had clothes that lasted decades and what I have now will probably last me years TBH. I've only had to re-stock in recent years because I am more large than medium. Sticking to shirts and trousers is an easy dress option for "Blokes"

I reckon that charity shop is there for good Pops, it's an odd little location, and remember how long the site was empty for after that row was built?
Nine shirts is nothing, it does make good sense to build up a washload. My washing machine has various economy settings, half load, super - quick wash for barely soiled items, cool wash etc. I make a point of using these and I've noticed my electricity bills have dropped compared with the old machine. When my son moves out they will plummet. (Hopefully).
I use Aldi's washing gel, every bit as good as Ariel in my book.
Better do some work I guess!

  • Morning all, I've been missing your company and only realised this morning that I've been so out of sorts because I'm missing the Dockling like a physical pain. Our whole life is out of kelter, our routine gone and a HUGE gap in our lives where that boy used to be. Takes a while for the penny to drop but this morning I actually realised why I've been sooooo crotchety. I don't think this is the right time to consider another hound but I do know we have to build a routine into life again I just don't know where to begin so work needed on that but at least it's a start thinking of it? He Who Knows says we should go out today, I have no idea where, the only thing that appeals is a beach walk and fish and chips out of the paper on a bench somewhere, that shouldn't be too hard to achieve. Washing is in the machine, housework done, beds made and He Who Knows is on the allotment and that's all that needs to be done today. I think that's part of the problem as lighter mornings and early starts mean all the jobs are out of the way before 10am and then the rest of the day stretches ahead with nothing in it that needs doing. I guess I need to 'get a life' in the most literal meaning of the phrase!

It's tough isn't it Lyn? You keep expecting to see their faces appearing round the corner. And your routine is built around their walks and mealtimes.

Maybe think about the things you couldn't do because of the responsibilities of having a dog, and make an effort to do them. And remember, there's nothing to stop you taking HWK out for a walk instead :)

Do you like to read Lyn? I find a book takes me out of myself for half an hour? A small project can help too. As you are always so helpful on different threads I think this is temporary this lost feeling. As Docky needed so much looking after at the end, your time was fully taken up with that, bless him. I hope this eases soon x

Losing someone or who is called a pet is difficult :( no easy answers. Even the time of year can make it more noticeable. I haven't lost anyone recently but the I found February until the end of May hard and since then I have picked up.

I am having to accept that there will be times when I think too deeply, struggle to be positive, find ways to occupy my time and mind. I nearly said its an age thing but I think if you are sensitive you can feel all of these things whatever age you are. I hope this passes soon but there are no set times for grieving.

I started that hedge on Sunday!!!! Weather and tiredness stopped me continuing it(events too)Thursday, I got stuck in again...finally bagged the leaves/twigs a few minutes ago. Again, I will keep on top of it now. The dreaded ivy has taken it over and there is a lot of rubbish in there but its tidy.

Perhaps next year I'll remove some of the hedge and replant new. Its been there since the house was built I'd guess sixty years ago.

Perhaps if I am up to it I'll re-bag the rubbish I have in the back garden and see if I can reduce how many bags the rubbish fills, as it dies down it takes up less space.

I may try and strim the final two lawns again before they get out of hand.

I don't want to tire myself out for tomorrow(Durham Miners Gala)that can be a long day.

Next week I may try and make a start on painting the fence in the back garden.

My washing line seems to be working well and getting back to some hand washing or not using the dryer to save money. The other night I saw a neighbour with a mini makeshift washing line...wire from a fence to a rough quickly made post shoved into the lawn and next to it she'd put out a kind of clothes airer(I think it was just an ordinary indoor one)carried outside but it could work as an alternative. I would not have thought of it before. If its not windy, no reason why it should blow over.

I suppose you could lightly sink the feet into a lawn to secure it a bit and in my home I have a sun trap in the porch which is both protected from wind/rain but catches the sun all day. I do have one of those airers that fit onto a radiator too but as I rarely use the heating that may be a lost cause.

I have health issues but did have my Hospital check up on Thursday with my new consultant. he's happy with what he deals with(Kidneys)but I may have to start on a statin because my cholesterol is considered too high(I'd say borderline)but I am not to blame, nor my diet.

Its part of the problem of kidneys not working as they should. If things stay as they are I do not see him again until November. So you look for the positives.

Wishing you all a good weekend. X
