I'll keep an eye out for it, Ivyleaf. I suspect it will crop up somewhere on a blog where someone has scanned it in. I've seen the pathe video featuring Mrs. Sew and Sew. I'll also ask OH if his school my have a copy of it somewhere he could photocopy for me. There are perks to having a history teacher in the house.;)

Pops - just a quickie - I was in Sainsbugs today and they've reduced their own brand grass seed if its of any interest. I also took a look at their Tomato Feed as I always check the ratios of minerals etc. Sainsbugs own is half the price of one of the well known brands and is a higher concentrate if anyone wants to know!

Interesting reading what everyone gets up to...apart from passing through London in the 90's between King's X and Waterloo to go to Bournemouth for holiday, I haven't had a proper look around our capital since 1981 and that was for a day trip. The day before Charles and Diana married(I think)

Lots to do but I'm finally getting somewhere, I can see the rockery again:)Good news about the grass seed. Other problem areas have been cut at the roots so will die back anyhow. Removing will be easier because of that. Much is bagged.

That bird box of hornets/wasps is actually bees...one investigated me tonight. I've had a blackbird keeping me company as I garden. He's found a few grubs to feed youngsters I assume. Unconcerned about me:p

Pops - how lovely that you have Bees. Lovely little creatures. If they don't want you too near their nest they will 'bump' you to move you away but generally as long as you approach fairly quietly & slowly they will not bother you at all. If you watch the nest from a little distance you will also see that they use a particular 'flight path' to enter & exit their nest. They are quite fascinating & as you can tell I absolutely love them!

Wow Pops gardens looking good ,well done ...mine needs the grass cutting ,hope that dh may do it on Sunday ,his day off ....if not it will be at least another week ...hey ho
Bees are fab little things , always end up singing the poo bear song when I see one ....the one that starts with the line " I'm just a little black rain cloud ,hovering over the honey tree ....." May be I have had too many children ! Lol

Well club land very busy ,always lots to do .....but still good fun

Find out from hospital tomorrow what my results are ..,feel a bit like the night before you get your exam results ,fingers crossed there is no change ....so need it to stay the same for a few more years , need my youngest kids to get a bit bigger ....

Only dh knows about tomorrow , believed it or not but it granddaughter 1st birthday tomorrow ...she is fab ....dont know where the year has gone ,so what ever the results nothing will be said till after the weekend ,big family BBQ planned for Saturday ,then work ( face painting) at a very large posh hotel Sunday

Lots going on around here ,lots of local woods getting cut down ,walk through then most nights ,the deer are letting you get very close to then ,tonight I stood for ages watching a mother and her baby ,very cute , they are cutting very large pine trees ,they are planning to fell them then replant ,so in 20 odd years we will have a wood again and the wildlife will come back ....:(

Thanks about the bees...the box is really ancient. Surprised it hasn't fallen apart TBH. But I guess we have wildlife of sorts.:)

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow Burtha. We're only as good as the next consultation. I follow you in approx. 2 wks. How lucky to have Deer closeby. I hear we have some on the outskirts of town and someone tells me they come up to the boundary of their property but I've never seen them and until recently I had no idea(and I've been on this town 55yrs)

Then again should I be surprised with Auckland castle 7 miles away in B Auckland and Raby Castle in Staindrop 15 miles away.

I could have told you about the deer, Pops, Craig nearly flattened one - or had one nearly flatten him - a few times on the road past the Blacksmiths' Arms.
Our urban foxes seem to have died out for the time being, they only live 2-3 years and I haven't seen or heard any for a while.

    I didn't know that.

When you say they will "bump" people - I'm wondering exactly how they do that. Do you find that one or two bees seem to keep flying into you and just touching you when you get too near to their nest? Or do they just keep flying past you uncomfortably close right in front of your nose? Trying to picture the details as to how they do this...

They do actually fly at you and just bump in to you to make you back off. I used to have a couple of hives in my garden that a local bee keeper looked after & could spend hours watching them! They are not aggressive - you're just too close for comfort for them.

So glad you have bees, Pops, not horrible hornets!

FPK I hope you manage to find a copy of the book - I'm sure you'd find it interesting. I donated mine to the hospice shop - shame, but there was no point keeping it as it was too difficult to read. I think the print was small on government pamphlets so that they could get more info onto the page at a time when paper was in short supply.

Burtha Thinking of you today, I hope the results are as you'd wish x
