The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times

Morning all,
More good news in the FPK household as Mr.FPK (not sure he'd appreciate that name!) was granted his promotion yesterday. It is only a very small one---actually I'm not sure they call them promotions in teaching--more like extra duties for the fun of it! But still, very nice to hear that he was selected above some very experienced and good colleagues. I'm very proud of him.
Stiltwalker, I think you might be enabling!:rotfl: I'll have a look for them next time I'm near a larger Mr. Ts. I'm pretty sure they don't have them in our local one. I've never seen the apple danish ones.
Kez, sorry to hear about your plants. We had a very heavy hailstorm here yesterday evening. I'm almost dreading looking out in the garden this morning.
Wondercollie I'm glad your son is settling in but sorry to hear the arm is so painful. It seems backwards that it has to be 'bad enough' to be signed off sick--it seems like taking the rest early on is usually the way--is it something permanent or an injury that will heal?
Thanks for the good luck wishes, Stiltwalker and Ivyleaf. I'm sure the nerves will kick in soon, they're bound to given this has been six years in the making.
This morning I've got two practice questions I want to answer and I want to finish a couple of note sheets that have some main points outlined that I'll have to hand in case I blank. I seem to be fine once I get warmed up talking about it. OH and I will go through my cards again tonight, just to keep my brain and what I say connected. I have a leisurely afternoon of painting my nails (I'm sure that won't matter but I'm one of those people who feels more confident when I have my 'armor' on) and getting my bag packed and clothes ready planned so all of my ducks should be in a nice little row tomorrow. If I get everything ready early I'll head to the gym. I went yesterday and felt much calmer after I'd exhausted myself.
We had a nice evening out last night. The band was one I've wanted to see for awhile. I was a little disappointed as I found that they pandered to the 'louder, louder' crowd which often seemed to drown out the cello, mandolin and very poetic lyrics. Still it was a nice distraction and we were home in bed by 12:00 so not too tired today.
Tonight's tea is salmon with a balsmic/mustard/onion relish sort of thing. I think I've planned broccoli and herby pasta with it. OH doesn't particularly like salmon, but he likes strong flavours so as long as it is covered in something he'll eat it happily.0 -
Wondercollie glad you are improving hope your shoulder get better soon as well.
Congrats to Mr FPK  and good luck to you for tomorrow am sure you will wow them and show how hard u have been studying.
Would everyone stop talking about cake, biscuits and crisps as I am low carbing/sugaring and everything else that is nice at the moment and this talk of delicious sounding food is making me drool. Start extolling the virtues of salad leaves and tomatoes pls lol.
Hope everyone had a good day today xx0 -
FPK we had your hail up in Blackpool at around 10pm!

Good luck FPK!!!
Don't worry you'll be fine! You'll go in there and dazzle them!
Well done to your OH how fantastic!
Ouch you've had an awful with your shoulder i remember it giving you really awful pain last year. Hopefully as the weather warms up your shoulder will ache a little bit less.
Think the puemonia job is for life, i made my father have it. Thought it best to be honest. Not getting the flu jab this year, after being ill every year i'm giving my body a break.
Not sure about you pops but we have had constant hail, rain , thunder for about 24hrs. It is absolutely awful, like you we have all had sleepwear on us and even god forbid the heating. We were going to have a bbq for ds1 birthday tomorrow, no chance of that now. No matter going to make pancakes for his breakfast so he should be happy either way.
thanks for the sympathy for the plants, its my own fault should have waited till june. The weather is seriously mucked and it has had a huge effect on the bees and wildlife in general.
Ah the joys gardening, on the plus side the salad leaves and spinach are growing well. Now do i freak the neighbours out and plant peas and beans in the hail or wait inside with a hot chocolate hmmm decisions decisions0 -
You could plant beans and peas in a suitable "tray" type thing with compost in (if you have some) kezlou - in order to use as microgreens at some point.
There's nothing to stop you taking out a few of them from said "tray" and replanting them later on in the garden - in order to have them grow on into full size plants.
I picked up some large "tray" type things about 2" deep the other day as freeby giveaways:D. Thought they looked just the thing to try growing some microgreens in.
If you eat ready meals - then the type of little "tray" type things they come in would function as little mini "trays" for that purpose too I would have thought.
<Sighs> thinking "I could do with my conservatory now" (ie instead of however-many-years time it will be when I have the money to add one to my house) - so I guess mine might be sitting on proper trays in front of a window meanwhile...0 -
Just quickly - Good luck tomorrow FPK.0

Thanks for all of the good wishes. I really appreciate them. THE neighbour, whose friends have been quiet for months woke us up last night around 1:30. Unfortunately I struggled to get back to sleep until a couple of hours before the alarm, but I'll be fine. As OH pointed out, my auto-pilot will kick in.
The weather is supposed to be clearer here today--fingers crossed for the birthday boy Kez. If you can't do a bbq, maybe a hot chocolate party with lots of toppings? Malteasers in the bottom of a hot chocolate is just too much for me now, but I think I would have loved it as a child.
I hope the clearer weather is better for plants!0 -
FPK Sending more good wishes for today
So sorry you didn't have the best night.
Shanks Sorry for mentioning the "c" word when you're low-carbing - but if it helps, I did buy some cherry tomatoes yesterday!
Went shopping yesterday and it was sunny when we went into the store. When we came out, it was raining so hard that there was a logjam of people and trolleys in the porch because no one fancied going out into it
Interesting, I originally typed "trollies" which I've always used as the plural of "trolley" and the spell check didn't like it...what do other people think? Perhaps "trolleys" is the American spelling?0 -
Ivyleaf I just either use my coconut and almond flour instead of wheat flour or I hunt down recipes on the net on the day. There are so many blogs with recipes now.0

Best of luck with your exam FPK. I am sure you don't need our luck as you have been studying for so long. Hope our thoughts give you confidence.0
