Congratulations FPK on your doctorate, I found studying for my BSc tiresome enough so I commend your efforts - Respect! I think you are right to keep your work/academe side of things away from the thread, I work full time in long shifts, and would not want to spend my free time discussing work subjects as I like to have a break from it all for my health and sanity!
Popperwell - I get the impression that despite your health issues you are not that ancient or decrepit, you still get out and about and live independently so all is not lost or futile. Nobody likes the thought of impending operations but if they can improve your quality of life then go for it. Get yourself as fit and healthy as possible so your body is in the best state to cope with things, and don't forget the old saying about "nil illegitimiti carborundum" (Latin scholars please feel free to correct my spelling and grammar if necessary)One life - your life - live it!0 -
Nargleblast Silvasava FPK Things always look different in the light of day and an odd push from friends makes all the difference. Thanks. I appreciate it! I often like the early hours and feel safe but it just seemed so quiet. And I started to think too much.
The repairmen have been so that's those jobs sorted. One job I don't have to be here as its external and the other job won't take long and they return on June 17th to do that.
I've another birthday in approx. 8 days...creeping towards being 60yrs old but I still have a couple of years.
I found by chance a couple of newspaper clippings of an auntie today who ended up living within days of being 104 remarkably its 14 years since we lost her. Her sister(My gran)almost made it to her 100th. If she hadn't had a fall and given up after her hip op she probably would've survived longer.
Going out, do a small shop, look in the charity clothes shop and see if anything takes my fancy. I may go for a ride around on a bus just for a change of scenery or wait until the weekend now. congrats Dr FPK , :T:j:T
I understand entirely regarding work and having somewhere like here where you can just rest.
My eldest really enjoyed his birthday, especially chocolate spread on crumpets.:rotfl: took him out for a meal and for a drink in a micro pub. Very old fashioned and the old fashioned with an overall Sherlock Holmes feel. The lads loved the traditional lemonade and scoffed the free peanuts and bombay mix .
Thanks for asking
pops its hard trying to keep yourself up, but you will do it. Don't worry just your life now .0 -
Well today we have sun and wind, yes sun whoo hoo
Supposed to be working but my little black cat Shadow has decided to sit on me in various positions for the past four hours. Little moo keeps chatting away at me and about 10 seconds ago decided to become a parrot so couldn't type.
Little has deleted speadsheets and wont let me move her. My mugis empty and a cuppa is badly needed.
Hrlp, my friend told her no and she hissed at the phone couldn't help but laugh :rotfl:0 -
Kez, I don't blame him. Chocolate spread on crumpets, Sherlocky pubs with old style lemonade..sounds brilliant!
I hope you've been released from the cat's clutches.

You're so right Burtha I actually used to feel calm and safe in the early hours but I've woke again(a little later than the previous night)and am going through a similar experience. Have to decide whether to potter around over the weekend or just climb on a bus and ride. Though its the same places.
Must try and make an effort to eat, I did a shop earlier and have fruit/veg/salad and purchased some diced beef, beef burgers, chicken, ham so I can make sandwiches, snacks, soups and casseroles. Perhaps I should have some ready meals too? But in case some items get wasted perhaps I'll wait and use up what I have first.
I've had a coffee and may play a few simple Facebook games to fill some time. I've lost interest in a lot of TV programmes. Maybe I'll have to think of watching some TV again.
There was an almightly clatter yesterday afternoon and I wondered what had caused the noise but decided it was probably something falling in a cupboard. Turns out a wood pigeon had flown into one of the front bedroom windows. Seems to have survived.
No sign of it being injured but its left a kind of dusty image all over the glass and I cannot reach the image to get rid of it. It may disappear if it rains again. Otherwise I'll have to wait for the window cleaner again."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Morning all,
OH has had his bacon butty and presents. I had to hide the bacon behind some leftovers in the fridge.
Pops, I wonder if you might consider taking up a handicraft--say leather working, knitting (it is apparently making a come back with men!) or model building. I had a great grandfather who used to do something called tatting (very fine knotwork that makes a sort of lace) and he also used to crochet trivets (never anything else, just trivets). My dad has done some tatting himself as well as some needlepoint bookmarks and he also does some woodcarving. He has a background in architecture so he likes working out designs, but you can find plenty of patterns if you're not inclined that way. Sometimes it is nice to have something absorbing to wile away those quiet hours, although weirdly those quiet contemplative hobbies seem to have gone out of fashion for men.
Burtha it sounds like everything is ticking over--and what a success with the club! Enjoy your time with baby M.0 -
FPK My Grandad was in the Navy in the early years of the last century and he could knit - he said the men used to knit their own socks! Glad your OH enjoyed his bacon butty
burtha Have a lovely time with baby M. That's a lovely stage she's at
Popperwell I hope you feel a little better this morning. Worries are usually worse at night.
Kez Glad DS enjoyed his birthday outing
Lots of washing to do today. It's so nice to be able to put it on the line. OH helps with the heavier/bigger things like sheets as my arm muscles don't behave very well
Also need to remember to take a couple of things to the dry cleaners.0 -
FPK - one of my friends DH used to do the most fabulous macrame - its all knotwork & something that sailors used to do. I think you are so right about quiet hobbies for men going out of fashion.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
